Copper Queens in stern South Korea test

The Zambia Women’s National Team will tomorrow face off with South Korea in an international friendly match. 

The Copper Queens and the Taegeuk Ladies are using the match as part of their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup

Coach Bruce Mwape has named a strong squad despite missing dependable Lushomo Mweemba who is nursing an injury. 

The 24 member squad summoned for the encounter is a mixture of locally based talent and foreign based players. 

Six players arrived earlier today to complete the squad.  Rachael Kundananji, Grace Chanda, Rachael Nachula and Hellen Mubanga, Mary Mulenga and Inonge Kaloustian are the last six to join camp in Seoul.

The team has already gotten down to work in the Asian Country. Bruce Mwape led his lasses through the paces at the Suwon World Cup Stadium training ground. 

The 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup runners up are expected to be led by Tottenham midfielder Cho So-hyun, Suwon midfielder So-yun Ji, Geum Min Lee of Brighton and Hove Albion Women, Hye-Ri Kim and Yu-Ri Choe. 

Mwape is expected to start Turkey based goalkeeper Hazel Nali between the sticks. 

With Lushomo Mweemba out injured Elite Ladies’ Pauline Zulu is expected to partner in the heart of defence with Esther Siamfuko and Martha Tembo on either side. 

In Midfielder, Grace Chanda is expected to join the female Computer, Ireen Lungu and the enterprising Evarine Susan Katongo

Upfront Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Hellen Chanda and Hellen Mubanga will fight for a starting spot while Rachel Kundananji and Skipper Barbra Banda start on the wings. 

Zambia plays South Korea on Friday at 12:00 hours (CAT) in the first of two international friendly matches at the Suwon World Cup Stadium. 

Korea Republic is ranked 17th in the World while Zambia is perched in the 77th position on the global charts.

South Korea is in Group H alongside Morocco, Colombia, and Germany. A match against Zambia will be an opportunity to face African opposition as part of preparations for the FIFA World Cup. 

Zambia are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.The World Cup will kick off on July 20 in Australia/New Zealand.
