Copper Queens face Mammoth task against two time World Champions, Germany

The Zambia Women’s National Team will play Germany in a pre-World Cup friendly this evening at the Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer, Kick off, 20h30.

This will be the first meeting between the 2022 WAFCON bronze medalists and the two World Champions.

Germany are coming off a 2-1 win over Vietnam in a friendly a fortnight ago. Paulina Krunbiegel and Janina Minge scored in either half to inspire the win, while Thanh Nha Nguyen Tin scored a late consolation for the Vietnamese.

Zambia, meanwhile, shared the spoils in a thrilling 3-3 friendly draw against Switzerland.

The Copper Queens took a 3-1 lead into the break, courtesy of goals from Grace Chanda, Barbra Banda and Rachel Kundananji.

However, goals after the break from Seraina Piubel and Coumba Sow ensured that both sides cancelled each other out.

Coach Bruce Mwape told the media that the Copper Queens will need to be good in all areas and play as a team against a quality side in Germany.

“We expect our team to do better than they have done during the last two friendlies we have played. We don’t need to relax in other departments, our aim is to play as a team and at the end of the day, we will be able to identify where we are not doing well and where we are strong,” Mwape said.

This evening’s game will serve as the final pre-tournament friendly for both nations before the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.

Zambia have been grouped alongside Japan, Spain and Costa Rica in Group C, while Germany are in Group G with Colombia, Morocco and South Korea.
