Copper Queens eye second win at COSAFA

The Zambia Women’s National team will be looking to continue their fantastic start to the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship when they face off with Lesotho this afternoon.

Zambia started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Namibia while Lesotho thrashed Eswatini 3-0 in their opening match.

Coach Bruce Mwape has declared his lasses ready for the match and says they have worked on the mistakes that they made in the opening match.

“Our girls are ready for the game. We had a post match meeting where we talked about the mistakes from the first game and we collected them in training. I only hope we won’t have any simple mistakes in the game but am sure we will be able to play a good game,” he said.

“The morale is good in camp especially after winning the first game despite making mistakes in that game and hoping tomorrow will be a different game,” he added.

Striker Barbra Banda has urged the fans to continue rallying behind the team so that they can deliver good results.

“The team looks good and everything is well. Our main target is to win the game and get maximum points,” Banda said.

“To the fans keep supporting us and we surely will deliver good results to them. It’s an important match that we have because the team we are facing are log leaders. We want to top the group and score a lot of goals,” she added.

Banda is expected to lead the attack alongside Ochumba Oseke Lubanji with Avell ‘Korkie’ Chitundu and Xiomara Mapepa on either wing.

Catherine Musonda is expected to continue between the sticks with Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa, Martha Tembo and Margaret Belemu  making up the back four.

The female Computer Ireen Lungu will partner the amazing Evarine Susan Katongo in midfield.

Mwape has options in Esther Siamfuko, Esther ‘Gelo’ Banda, Vast Phiri and Judith Soko in defense, Eunice Sakala and Agness Fabiola Banda in goal, Natasha Witika, Mary Wilombe, Misozi Zulu and Maweta Chilenga in midfield and Enelesi Phiri, and Natasha Nanyangwe upfront.
