The Copper Queens are back in action this evening as they face off with Tunisia in the 2022 Morocco Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Queens opened their campaign with a hard fought goalless draw against tournament favorites Cameroon.
Head coach Bruce Mwape says the team has prepared adequately for the match and he has promised an aggressive match with a lot more chances.
“We have prepared enough for the game, after playing a tough game against Cameroon. For this game we want to field a team that will be aggressive enough to create chances. Against Cameroon we defended well but we did not create a lot of scoring chances but this time we want to have aggressive strikers,” Mwape said.
Meanwhile goalkeeper Hazel Nali says the players are all looking forward to this game.
“We are ready for the game, we have prepared well and everyone is looking forward to the game,” she said.
Mwape’s lasses have been boosted by the availability of winger Xiomala Mapepa and striker Ochumba Oseke Lubanji who missed the opener against Cameroon.
Tunisia shot to the summit of Group B after a resounding 4-1 victory over debutants Togo thanks to a brace from Sabrine Ellouzi who will be key again to their set up this evening.
Skipper Grace Chanda is expected to lead the attack alongside Mapepa, Ochumba, and Misozi Zulu.
Nali is expected to maintain her place between the sticks with Martha Tembo, Margaret Belemu, Agness Musesa and Lushomo Mweemba.
Evarine Susan Katongo, Mary Wilombe, Irene Lungu, and Maweta Glory Chilenga and Esther ‘Gelo’ Banda are all available for selection in midfield.
Kick-off for this evening’s match will be at 19h00CAT at the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca.
In the other Group B match, Cameroon will play Togo at the same venue at 22h00CAT. Both matches will be live on SuperSport.
The top two teams in each of the three groups will advance to the quarter-finals, along with the two best third-place teams.
The semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand next year. Two more teams will be involved in inter-continental play-offs.
