Copper Queens battle Botswana for a place in the final…As Princesses look to maintain winning run

The Zambia Women’s National Team will this afternoon be taking on Botswana in the semi-finals of the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Championship currently ongoing in South Africa while the Under-17 will lock horns with Zimbabwe in a formality match.

The Copper Queens will be hoping to bounce back from a 1-nil loss to Malawi and redeem themselves against a stubborn Mares side who are bubbling with confidence with hopes high saying they will carry the day.

Coach Bruce Mwape is expected to maintain his line-up that played the past games but of course taking the game with a different tactical approach from the previous match.

On the other side, The Mares will be counting on two exports to Zambia, Thanda Onneile Mokgabo and Michelle Abueng who play for Lusaka Province side Yasa Queens to rise to the occasion as they know how Zambian Football is like having been here for over a year now.

However, it will be a tough game for both sides whose eyes are now on the final game to be played on Saturday afternoon.

The last time these two sides met was last year at the same championship in South Africa, they drew 0-0 in the group stages, and again they met in the semi-finals with Zambia running riot over Botswana with a 4-0 scoreline so it will either be history repeating itself or revenge time for Botswana.

Meanwhile, The Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team will have a fourth and final game of the round-robin against Zimbabwe.

This will be a formality match as the Copper Princesses already qualified to the final which is set for Saturday against East African Guests Tanzania.

Coach Kaluba Kangwa is likely to make wholesale changes to his squad and give other players a chance to also have a feel of the tournament against a not so sharp young Mighty Warriors who haven’t had a good run at this ongoing tournament.

The Senior Women’s Team match against Botswana will be the first to Kick-off at 12:00hrs at the Wolfson Stadium while the Under-17 will take to the field of play against Zimbabwe at 15:30hrs at the Oval Stadium with both matches being broadcasted live on COSAFA TV.
