Zambian striker Winstone Kalengo has signed for Congo Brazaville side AC Leopards. The 2015 Zambian Player of Year moves from Zambian Champions Zesco United.
Zambianfootball.co.zm understands there was negotiations between the Football Association of Zambia, FAZ and Athletic Club Leopards officials if the transfer matching system [TMS] could have been done after the CHAN tournament but circumstances couldn’t allow.
“The people are FAZ are in panic gear and wanted to have the best team at CHAN. They know, a win or semi final place will be good going into the March AGM which because of the elections.
“With Kalengo in the side, Zambia could have a better chance of winning it but unfortunately, the transfer window in Congo will close on January 12, 2016. It opened on 21st October and their n next window will be in June which will be for one month.
Kalengo will now miss the CHAN 2016 season which starts on January 16 Zambia will face Congo Brazaville in March 2016 in an AFCON qualifier
The Dolisie based side has won the Congolese league twice in 2012 and 2013. In 2012 they also lifted the CAF Confederations Cup.
Most of the players are local with a few foreigners from DR Congo as well as Gabon and Cameroon. They are coached by a Belgium manager.
They are currently top of the log with 41 points after 17 matches.

SO OF ALL CLUBS THATS WANTED HIS SERVICES WHY SHOULD IT BE THIS ONE THAT HE CHOSE
Congo brazaville of all countries . This is not a good move
You my fellow fans, its either you are economically sound or somebody who is, looks after you. At 30+ years its not where you are going, its about money here. Thanks for your great advice, but no thanks, there is a future to take care of. If if were Claydon Luchanga at 17 years, yes.
I think I read that the Club won the Confederation cup in 2012???Its definately a team with ambition which our ZESCO, ZANACO, POWER dont have
Let Him Enjoy His Money Coz He Wil Be Retiring Soon
we will miss this man at chan, this is wat happened wth power. Luka lungu helped them 2 win da ligue, while power were stil enjoying luka signs don bosko
Yaaaba yayipa game now. Luka Lungu is also good at the goal. Where is he?
Kikikikiki I am in panic gear. Try mulawo of green eagles and Chriss katongo
This is a disgrace to zambian football congo brazavilla of all countries whoever advise kalengo to sign for this club is a fool a big fool indeed.I can only discribe this move as rubbish, useless, pathetic, hopless and stinking sorry guys I have no kinds words for this.I’m disappointed
Desperation at its pick, i hope this is not true. Why on earth would a player like him go to Congo B ? India, thailand, china and now Congo B. Whats wrong with our players ?
WHO WROTE THIS ARTICLE? Whether Faz were doing it for elections or not it would have still been in our best interest as Zambians that he stayed at Zesco.Lets face it,he was the top scorer for club and country and looking at competitiveness of the tournaments we will be participating in next year and also looking at the kind of strikers we have in the country, you don’t want to lose a player like Kalengo at this moment.People will talk about money and his age quite alright but what about dying a little for mother Zambia?
ZAMBIAN PLAYERS ALWAYS PUT THEMSELVES FIRST THAN COUNTRY REMEMBER IT WAS THE SAME WITH MUKUKA MULENGA WE FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR CHAN 2014 BECAUSE HE SIGNED FOR SUNDOWNS NOW HE GOES TO CONGO (KALEN0 better clubs in africa couyld have signed him like esperance , zamalek, al hilal , orlando pirates etc, unlike going to congo . GEORGE HAS TO GET moses phiri whom he ditched for reasons known to him IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO HAVE KALENGO .
zamfoot, give us news on local player transfers, I have read that there have been a lot of player movements. People, the deal has been the best that the player liked. Let him make hay while the sun shines.
Not a very good move. Let’s hope the coach will get us his best replacement for CHAN
The move is not good at all he would have waited for chan who knows a better club was going to sing him at list not where he has gone am not happy with your move mr kalengo
What a dull move..This shows how dull and low thinking our players can be. Very useless..
Sometimes I wonder what it would take to satisfy some Zambian fans on this blog. It is like they have switched on a mode for criticising. Just yesterday a lot of you were saying South Africa is not a good destination for Zambian players. The Democratic Republic Of Congo have also been tagged the same way.Arab countries, Zimbabwe, Botswana or indeed the whole of southern Africa have been mentioned before as bad hunting grounds for Zambian players.Congo Brazaville is new forest for a chipolopolo weapon bearing player but surprisingly the country is tagged. Where do you want these players to head to as they leave Zambia for careers abroad? Europe is not convinced that Zambian players of the grade they want.Let these players test the various untested waters. That is the only way out of the bad patch these players are treading
through. The most needed things among Zambian players now is to build character(character that can make them survive the most harsh conditions of the the football fraternity). This is definitely not an easy feat to attain. It calls for theZambian football fraternity and their supportive entities to get to work more than they are providing lip service to Bola ya pa zed.
That is very right sir. You have put it very well.
Careful analysis. Thank you, Sly.
Has Kalengoal misfired this time. No! Congolese know how to keep players. Its all about money ,house , cars and respect in Congo.
limbi ba kalengo ba ku congo ka…happy 2016 !!
congrats kalengoal but I feel u wud ve waited 4 june transfer window as a way of thankin yo fans & country too by playing CHAN first which cud ve widen yo oppotunities as many scouts wil b watchin de tournament. sori u lacked advisors. all in all kip the candle burning.
I believe Kalengo is a professional. He has been around for some time as far back as the Zanaco days when he banged in goals at will and yet went unnoticed. He’s man enough to make a professional decision about his career. Non of us here will contribute a bag of Mealie meal for him to feed his children. That is his job. Kalengo, just remember the attributes that have taken you to that level, seriousness, decipline, hard work, dedication to duty, focus and determination that you can do. Go ahead and conquer. You have our support. Together with you, we can gun down Congo Brazzaville in March 2016 in that Afcon qualifier.
Useless move if you ask me. Total nonsense. Can’t say more.
coz u are a fool.
@Shi Malama, you and your father are fools. M0ron.
Zamfoot kindly tell us hw much they ll be paying him.
We have Liberian, Kenyan, and Ugandan internationals, dont see why our internationals cant play in other African leagues???Thought we by now have learnt that its more about consistent playing than the profile of your club that is more benefitial to a national team? Wasnt Mayuka more useful to Zambia at Young Boys than he went on to become at Southampton? Wasnt Sinkala a more confident player at the Nationla team while playing for TP Mazembe than what became of him after that stint in France? This Congolese team has ambitions-CAF Confederation Champions in 2012, and I gues they are in the same league as Mazembe or the other African heavy weights(like it or not but its the truth). However, I would have loved our ZESCO, ZANACO, POWER, Nkana, Buffalo to have similar ambitions and retain our best players for international competitions like those involving CAF. By the way, what is happening to our export to Gabon????
awe ba kalengo, chan wu be boring for zambian people minus you!
Smh, One wonders what type of curse or spell our footballers are under. Of all the possible destinations, you choose the jungles of Congo? Yaba…It would be funny if it wasn’t sad
FAZ not ZESCO?They are in a panic mode ba Galu and the group. Selling Kalengo for the sake of winning next years elections sure!Where were ZESCO officials?
Not a good move at all, but looking at his age he could not attract a lot of clubs. He has done what has been considered to be the best decision for his career. Let’s not rush on him. 31 years in football is considered as older age.
football is indeed funny….im turning 30nxt year and i feel im just gettn startd wit my career and life, and here is a footballer,at31,being regarded as an old man.quiet interestn i must say
All the best kalengoal….the only way to silence your dull critiques is to do what you do best.Bang in the goals.
Unfortunately Zambia is under perfoming at junior level, the desire and descipline starts at youth. Unfortunately its now a situation of money or desire.
Ama decision yamo…
Good move Kalengo. Go and make money. Remember to invest in real estate at home. We dont want another Litana Elijah selling cooking oil in the streets after the Saudi Arabia outing.
All I can say is bad timing, by the way happy new year guys .
