Congo Brazaville U23 coach Jean Elie Ngoya has resigned his position in the wake of his teams elimination from the 2019 Egypt U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualification by Zambia.
Ngoya who had assembled a strong team for the qualifiers tendered his resignation to the Congo Football Federation on Monday.
“Having not achieved my goals, I present to you my resignation” Ngoya said.
The coach apologised for the team’s failure and stated that he took full responsibility for what happened.
“I accept alone the responsibility of this failure that I hope will open our eyes for the next competitions”, he added.
Congo were in a strong position going into the second leg having lost by a slender margin and carrying an away goal.
They were awarded a dubious penalty which set them off for a good start in the second leg but goals from Enock Mwepu (brace) and Patson Daka ensured Zambia went through to the finals after pulling off a 3-3 draw winning 5-4 on aggregate.
