Comoros beat Zambia 1-0 for the second edition in a row to get their Group D campaign off to the perfect start at the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup 2025 at the Toyota Stadium in Mangaung | Bloemfontein on Friday.
Comoros took the lead on 31 minutes as Ibrahim Madi headed in Ahmed Haslane’s free kick from the left byline, and the islanders were full value for their victory.
Comoros reached the semifinals last year in their best showing yet, and in a three- team pool that also contains Botswana, have taken a giant step towards repeating that, with record seven-time winners Zambia on the brink of a group stage exit for an unprecedented second edition in a row.
The defeat also extends Zambia’s longest ever losing streak in the competition to four games, after they were defeated on all three pool matches in 2024.
But Comoros continued their excellent improvement and for the most part were comfortable against their illustrious opponents.
The action continues with a Super Saturday, when no less than three matches will be played at the Toyota Stadium.
Mozambique will hope to build on their opening 1-0 Group A win against South Africa when they take on a Mauritius side that showed plenty of spirit in holding
Zimbabwe to a 0-0 draw in their first game
Mozambique and Mauritius have clashed on two occasions in the regional competition, with The Mambas recording a single win and there being a draw.
The match is an early start at 12h00 CAT (10h00 GMT)
