The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Executive Committee has appointed Nkana FC mentor Aggrey Chiyangi and Nkwazi’s Elijah Chikwanda as Zambia national football team assistant coaches.
Chiyangi and Chikwanda will deputise head coach George Lwandamina along with Chintu Kampamba.
FAZ Acting General Secretary told fazfootball.com on Friday that Chiyangi and Chikwanda’s appointments were with immediate effect and that the duo would be part of the technical team from upcoming international friendly matches against Togo and The Gambia on May 27 and May 30 respectively.
FAZ earlier stated that they had parted ways with Irfan Kawri the British coach who has in the past encounters assisted Lwandamina to drill the team.
Kawri was brought in by the Kalusha Bwalya led administration and looked poised to take up a long term role with the Chipolopolo.
However, in Chiyangi and Chikwanda FAZ has opted for two coaches who have managed to transform their teams in the local league and carry a lot of experience.
Chiyangi a former international who was part of the post Gabon disaster team that won Silver at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament has previously coached the U17 national team.

Replace Chintu with Muhammad Fatty
Local is lacker
Football can be confusing. If Zambia really needs a European mentor don’t you think a European assistant to the native mentor would have brought at least a
little bit of the European dimension people are crying out for? …….but you have just let him (European mentor) out!
Ati appointed. What is this nonsense? What about their clubs. Employ a full time coach and assistants ime tu FAZ, Yashani iyi kanshi. This song of there is no money is rubbish and useless.
Tell me;
1. How do you manage to pay the full time employees at Football e.g. GS
2. How do you manage to pay allowances to officials
Tell us
And some of the Zambian club officials are useless just like some coaches
1. Why release the coach at the expense of you club?
2. What happens if something happens to the coach while with the National team. Here I am thinking of insurance
Some people will jump to patriotism. Did the families of the Gabon air disaster eat patriotism?
If the lack of money is the real issue blocking the appointment of an expatriate then i’d urge Faz to give Lwandamina the job fulltime. What sort of natioanal team goes for this long without a full time coach? Even though I don’t believe George is the right guy for the job, stability is important. This dilly dalling will take us no where. Soon we shall hear the same old song “We are in a rebuilding process”.
A food for thought indeed! If the issue of a coach is as important to them, as it is to us(the fans) Why could they not let the gentleman who had been acting as general secretary continue with duo roles and use the money being paid to Mr Liwewe and his deputy to pay an expatriate coach? Unless faz officials don’t earn as much, that could have been the best option. But hey, like the bembas say ‘Abekala mumupundu, ebomfwa uko shipona'(only those who sit under the mupundu tree can know when the fruits drop or fall), maybe they know the best options. Otherwise good luck to the technical bench, as long they can produce good results, not much will be said, BUT, if the opposite will be the case, ninshi kuwayawayafye!
We need an expatriate coach on full time basis. Chipolopolo is too big for part timers.
FAZ is broke, they don’t have money, soon we won’t have any foreign players coming to play. FAZ needs to look at other options
