Chitundu expecting tough game against Banyana Banyana

Zambia Women’s national team forward Avell Chitundu believes the game against Banyana Banyana won’t be easy given the history between the two teams.

The Copper Queens will face Banyana Banyana on Monday for a place in the final of the ongoing Morocco 20222 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following their hard-fought win over Senegal on post-match penalties.

The ZESCO Ndola Girls striker believes the unity in the team both on and off the pitch is helping them to do well at the tournament.

“I think the game won’t be easy, we have played South Africa a lot of times, and we have won some games and lost some hence it won’t be easy we need to be prepared,” she said.

“Every game we believe in ourselves, we take it seriously. We have a lot of unity in the team on and off the pitch which helps us perform in every game.”

Avell Chitundu has scored two important goals so far in the tournament, the late winner against Tunisia and the equalizer against Senegal.

Chitundu has revealed that the fighting spirit and eye for goal that the skipper of the side Barbra Banda has is pushing her to keep working hard and finding herself in goal-scoring opportunities.

“What is pushing me is the fighting spirit which I have and what I see from my captain, Barbra Banda who scores in every game she plays, She knows that scoring wins you games because you can play well and fail to win if you don’t score. I love scoring goals,” she said.

“Am happy, the credit goes to my teammates who believe me and tell me that it’s not about my body or height, they tell me to just do my best. So the credit goes to them and my coach who believes in every one of us,” she added.

Chitundu believes the team has a high chance of winning the tournament but they need to start with a win over Banyana Banyana.

“We have high chances at this tournament but it depends on how we will take the game against South Africa,” she said.

“I want to say thank you to the people of Chipulukusu for the support and good messages.”
