Chitiya Mususu scored twice to inspire Aguila Stars to a 2–0 victory over River Plate in the opening week of the 2026 ZPL Men’s National League Transitional Season Southern Zone.
The experienced forward struck either side of half-time, scoring in the 45th and 46th minutes, as Brian Kunsenama’s side began their transitional campaign with a comfortable win.
For Mususu, the brace provided a welcome return to the scoresheet after a period disrupted by injuries.
The 31-year-old striker has enjoyed a career that has included spells with NAPSA Stars, ZANACO and ZESCO United, as well as a stint with South African side TS Galaxy. He has also represented Zambia at international level.
Mususu’s goalscoring pedigree was particularly evident during his time at NAPSA Stars. In April 2017, he scored twice in a 3–0 opening-day victory over Nchanga Rangers, while that same season he earned a trial with Slovenian club NK Domžale after making a strong start to the campaign.
His career has also been punctuated by injury setbacks. In 2017, a groin injury kept him out for almost two months after he had scored three goals in his first two matches of the season. Two years later, he was stretchered off during ZANACO’s CAF Confederation Cup match against Bolton City after suffering another injury.
More recently, Mususu was among a group of Red Arrows players who missed the 2024 CECAFA tournament while recovering from injuries.
He joined Aguila Stars in August last year on a two year loan from Red Arrows. He sustained a knee injury that same month making him sit out almost the whole of last season.
Mususu sustained the injury to his left knee following a twisting and hyperextension mechanism trauma during a match against Kafue Celtic.
His latest performance will therefore be particularly encouraging for the forward as he looks to regain rhythm and consistency on the pitch.
Mususu’s two goals were enough to settle the contest against River Plate and give Aguila Stars three points at the start of their Southern Zone campaign.
