Chirundu United bolster squad with 10 signings ahead of Super League debut

Newly promoted Chirundu United have strengthened their squad with 10 new signings as they prepare for their first season in Zambia’s MTN Super League.

The Border Boys have added eight players initially announced by the club, with six arriving on loan and two joining on permanent deals.

George Mandu has joined from Red Arrows, while Felix Phiri arrives from Lusaka Youth. Maurice Masuku has moved from Nkhani FC, Christopher Zulu from Nkwazi, Kelvin Phiri from ZANACO and Sylvester Nkhoma from Green Buffaloes.

Peter Banda has joined permanently from Zesco Malaiti, while Chiwala Lunkoto has also signed on a permanent deal from Atletico Lusaka.

Chirundu have subsequently added two more players, with Stanely Nkausu joining on loan from Makeni All Stars and goalkeeper Enock Simukoko arriving permanently from Chambeshi FC.

The club described the additions as a blend of “experience, youth, hunger and loyalty” as they build a squad capable of competing in the top flight.

The signings come as Chirundu prepare for their first competitive fixture of the new campaign.

The newly promoted side will face Makeni All Stars in the ZPL Charity Shield on Saturday, giving them an immediate opportunity to test their revamped squad against one of the teams they will encounter during the Transitional League.

Chirundu secured promotion to the MTN Super League after an impressive campaign in the second tier and will now face the challenge of competing against Zambia’s established top-flight clubs.

Their arrival adds another chapter to the growing football rivalry between the two sides, with Nkausu now temporarily switching sides after joining Chirundu from Makeni.

Chirundu will use the Charity Shield as an early test before the Transitional League’s league fixtures begin on 3 October.

The Border Boys will be hoping their extensive recruitment drive can provide the depth required for their first season among Zambia’s elite.
