The Zambia national team has qualified to the semifinals of the 2022 Hollywood Bets COSAFA Cup semifinals.

The Copper Bullets booked their place in the last four following a 5-4 winnon post match penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw with Botswana.

Assistant coach Moses Mwape Sichone took charge of the team after head coach Aljosa Asanovic suffered VISA issues.

Zambia started as the better side pilling pressure on the Zebras from the onset and nine minutes into the first stanza it paid off.

Botswana were unlucky to fall behind as a cut-back from Ricky Banda struck defender Tebogo Kopelang and rebounded past helpless Zebras goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko.

After missing a few chances Zambia were left regretting as Botswana hit back eight minutes into the second half, left-back Benson Mangolo’s strike with his less favoured right foot arrowed into the top corner leaving Mwenya Chibwe in the Zambia goal with no chance.

Zambia had a chance to seal the win at the death but substitute, Enock Sakala Jnr missed a glorious opportunity hitting the post from close range.

The match went to penalties, and Mangolo turned villain as he struck his spot-kick wide to allow Zambia a 5-4 victory.

Zambia scored the spot kicks through Ricky Banda, Kelvin Kapumbu, Luka Chamanga, Saddam Phiri and Dominic Chanda.

  1. Zambia were technically more superior side but lacked the technic to break down the Botswana central defence, all they needed to do were carpet crosses into the goal area, and not those high balls they made up to the 90th minute, which were easily dealt with by the physically superior Tswana central defence! It was until in added time when Enoch Sakala almost snatched the winner, after some carpet crosses which confused the Tswana central defence! So a coach must be able to read a game technically as the game progresses and change the tactical input to advantage his players!

  2. Zebras have troubled us before , so a good result!
    (Always feel stressed these days,,everything a knockout / do or die/ must win/…. scenario….)

  3. Find a way of looking as if you are floating, bouncing, dancing, gliding, arrogant. Anything other than buzz bombs. In fact maybe just 2 or three guys should do that. Kalaba, Pavel Nedved, Ian Bakala, Perry Mutapa, Clifford Mulenga, Jet Lee, Moses Sichone, Zidane, Maradona, Delpiero, Maldini, Balotelli, Messi, Mbesums. After Charles Musonda only Moses Sichone had a beautiful way of turning and that created huge gaps in the opposition. Sichone would spin with the ball receiving a well waited ball from defence.
Maybe starve the other team of the ball….something very quickly
