Chipolopolo suffer defeat in Agadir

A goal either side of the break gives Morocco a win in Agadir.

Hakim Ziyech gave Morocco the lead after just five minutes when the referee pointed to the spot after a foul by Stophila Sunzu in the box.

Zambia started growing into the game slowly with Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba and Gift Mphande pushing the Morocco defense.

The final pass to Patson Daka was still missing as the midfielders hurried the pass to the Leicester City forward.

Daka did well to hold the ball after the half hour mark and laying it to Emmanuel Banda who missed a sitter as his tame shot went wide off Bono’s goal.

The match went to the break with Morocco leading 1-0.

Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz continued to be menace for the Zambia defense and 22 minutes into the second stanza he set up Eliesse Ben Seghir who slotted home from close range to double the lead.

Patson Daka had a chance to pull a goal back after a Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba corner found him in acres of space but the Kafue native headed wide.

Substitute Edward Chilufya who replaced Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba pulled one back with a beautiful finish after using his pace well to beat a Moroccan defender before unleashing a powerful low shot which went past Bono.

Stophila Sunzu had a chance to tie the match in the dying minutes but his headed effort went just centimeters over the bar.

Morocco held on to win the match 2-1 and maintain top spot in Group E.

Next up for Zambia is a home encounter against Tanzania at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Tuesday.
