Chipolopolo held to a goalless draw in Mozambique

The Zambia national team were held to a goalless draw by the Mambas of Mozambique in the first round, first leg encounter of the Algeria 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Aljosa Asanovic went into the match without Cyril Mwenya Chibwe, Prince Mumba and Spencer Sautu who were all out due to injury.

Zambia started strong with COSAFA Cup final hero Albert Kangwanda testing Ernan Siluane in the opening three minutes.

The chances were far and apart with Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba coming close with set pieces and long range efforts while on the opposite end, Charles Kalumba had to make two good saves to keep the match level at the break.

In the second half the chances became even more scarce with Zambia needing Charles Kalumba’s heroics to survive a late scare, 0-0 the match ended.

The two sides will meet on Saturday in Lusaka for the return leg at National Heroes Stadium.

The winner over the two legs will meet Malawi to decide who qualifies to Algeria.

  1. I agree with @Nshikuat Bwali This game is still open. A goalless draw is not a good score. Not sure if away goals are used in these qualifiers. If that’s the case, then any draw apart from 0-0 then Mozambique goes through.
