Chipolopolo down 9 places on FIFA ladder

Despite recording two wins and two draws in January, Zambia has tumbled nine places on the FIFA ladder to rank 76th in the world according to the rankings released by FIFA today.

FIFA have indicated that four matches were considered in the rankings last month for Zambia with the Chipolopolo winning against Zimbabwe and Uganda before drawing against Mali and Guinea (Guinea went on to win on penalties).

However the Chipolopolo only fell two place in Africa being overtaken Equatorial Guinea and South Africa who move into 13th and 15th places respectively with Zambia ranking 16th.

A special mention goes to Rwanda (85, plus 6) in the latest ranking. The Wasps won three of their six matches played since early January, while also closing out 2015 with a shock-upset over African heavyweights Côte d’Ivoire in an international friendly played on 16 December 2015 – FIFA

Cape Verde has crept into second position on the continent just behind Ivory Coast.

  1. Useless rankings as usual prepared by a group of crooks and conmen masquerading as world football leaders. FIFA sucks and needs a complete overhaul. Inasmuch as Zambia does not deserve to gain due to pathetic performances, if the Chan games were included, under what basis has South Africa gained their points and to be above Zambia?

  2. Whatever the case is, in my opinion Zambia deserves to be in to 50 in the world and top 10 in Africa, we are one of the most consistent team in Africa despite never having qualified for the world cup.

    • Has the team that won in 2012 ever won again? Can’t even get out of group stages at AFCON.. Nigeria went to Brazil? Yes. That is class. Rankings no matter how confusing & stupid are used to seed teams for the World Cup qualifiers. Ignore the rankings at your own peril

  3. And what has south Africa done?? Cape Verde is overrated what have they won?? Even Belgium cant be better than Germany or Brazil… What staff do these crooks inhale??

  4. Billy is hitting the nail on the head. FIFA have misled all of us for a long time. Its very possible that there is a fair amount of manipulation of these rankings to favour certain interest groups like UEFA. On another note congratulations to Cape Verde for such a small country they have slowly powered their way up the world rankings and will come close to qualifying for the world cup – I wonder what their ranking was 10 years ago – anyone know???

  5. looking at the afcon qualifying tables some of these teams who are on top of us they wil not qualify to the 2017 afcon more especialy Equatorial guinea & south africa but for us we wil be there in gabon to show them that these are rotten rankings.

  6. I have trouble ,understanding these rankings. At one time German was number 17 globally that year ,German played in the final of the World Cup and lost to Brazil.Confusing ranking. On any day,Egypt is a solid team.Cape Verde ?,may be.Please help me understand.

  7. We tend to rely on a single glory . We make reference to our 2012 Afcon every day . Nothing after that. Other teams have improved. We cannot beat minnows & we constantly compare ourselves to other nations. Ivory Coast won the last Afcon, Ghana was runners up, Algeria were in the semis/quarters. Consistency of these nations put them at the top of us. Some of these nations have performed very very well at every AFCON. We have done so once. That is all. Just for one time. Was it a fluke? Could be as nothing promising has happened after that. We need to revamp the structure of the game to overcome the underlying bottlenecks in our football. It is only when the rankings are in that we see ourselves as better than others. Prove that on the field of play . Just lost to Guinea. 2015 Afcon – group stage exit. Let us be realistic.

  8. The rankings can be alleged to have some political and colonial traits in them. The best is to beat Congo home and away, beat Kenya at home and New Guinea away.

  9. I’m also puzzled. They are saying rankings were made after four games. If that is the case, let me start with the Kenya game which Zambia won, then Zimbabwe game,Uganda & Mali a draw.So three wins plus a draw to me it’s a good achievement. This FIFA rankings is as good as a used toilet tissue.

  10. Cape verde above Zambia, useless rankings ata if I may ask u cape verde nifinshi achitapo achieve mu African continent 2 afcon appearance damn

  11. Can you understand ba Chipolopolo! ranking should be based on the prospects, much as taking into account past glories, and possibilities looking at what they have, in terms of programs, talent management and technical management and prospects, in this respect where is Zambia. Further more what are the prospects of doing well in future engagements?
