Chipolopolo coach to be named this week

Sport Minister Vincent Mwale has disclosed that the country will know the new Zambia national team coach this week.

Mwale stated that FAZ has made significant progress on the engagement of a new coach and he will be meeting with the FA on Wednesday over the same.

“The minister has been briefed about progress and that’s why he was able to issue that statement to ZNBC. The present state is that FAZ is just finalizing some formalities and it’s going to be either a French, Belgian or Croat coach with excellent credentials and fitting the bill of one of the biggest teams in Africa and a rising force in global football,’’ football House insiders told ZamFoot on condition of anonymity.

The new coach will have George Lwandamina, Chintu Kampamba and Fighton Simukonda as assistants. He will be handed an initial two-year deal.

  1. Just as much as it is a welcome move, but why not interview a lot of coaches and then come up with one,in short no transparency.

  2. Corruption as usual. How on earth do you employ without advertising the position either internally or external. Faz is finalising the process but no one heard of any advert or even shortlisting. Just hand picking, sivintu!!!!

  3. While we welcome this the recruitment of a coach, It is the way the recruitment process is done that we soccer are worried about. Kalusha just hand picks his friends to come and coach Zambia. The recruitment of a Zambian coach should be done in a more transparent manner.

  4. If you want transparency just get rid of Kalu and his admin. The government and only do so much and make no mistake, Kalu does not like this as he wanted his won puppets that would cut him a check. Kalu needs to go if the future of this team is to be what we all want it to be. Kalu is big screw up and I wonder why he has been FAZ presido this long. Just this weekend, he and his crooks at FAZ lied that all the cheaper tickets were sold out yet his friends that own stores were selleing the same tickets at a higher value. They also distributed these tickets to their Kaponyas to fetch for more money. Wake up people.

  5. We need a coach that will be engaged with the players, on that would visiting with the players to check on their progress. Kalu better stay away from the coaches job, let the coach select players on merit and play time, then there is no any current striker will bench Roger Kola. Heck even Jacob Mulenga would be a better option than this nonsense of Patson Daka. Daka is being rushed and they will screw up this young talent as they did with the likes Edward Kangwa..those that remember the school boy international. Let the young man mature before putting a heavy load on his shoulders. Kalu with his so called connections had done nothing to recommend our young talent to europe or even Mexico where he is supposed to be having connections. George Weah connections young young talents even now, but ba Kalu is being getting nkongole from bene Osama bin laden people, what kind of nonsense is this?

  6. It will be interesting to learn who this guy is!

For now we keep our fingers crossed. I saw how the young Irish(?) Rwandese coach put Mbique in trouble in Maputo. Game reading is cardinal in football.

I don’t want Belgian coz Kalu has too much connection there. French also he may end up bringing that white guy who once git stranded here briefly after his des failed with Kalu. He once coached Congo Brazaville when we beat the. Home and away.

  7. The announcement of that coach is really shocking. No advert, no short listing and the Government is even happy to announce, anyway Govt does not run football, where is the sports council? I am sure it will be one of Kalu’s friends trying to build his CV on chipolopolo. Let’s wait and see how the same character will fair but there is something dubious about this deal.

  8. Yes, the current style being employed innrecruitingna coach is througy head-hunting. This is preferred basing on recommendations from experts. It also depends on the urgency of filling up the vacancy. Recruitment process can take long. Imagine a post is advertised in June and it runs for 2 months to ensure it is widely publicised, it means short listing will be done in August and calling candidates for interviews allowing for 1 or 2 weeks preparations and travel, and interviews in September. Recommending the successful candidate to GRZ and announcing the successful candidate may be October. For that person to study the contract and accept the offer or for him to disengage from his current employer may take another six months.
Basically a proper and thorough process takes long unlike what you most of you are saying. So let’s give the FAZ administrators do their job and lets pray for them to get a good coach. Croations and Serbians are good coaches.

  9. The fact that three countries are mentioned (Belgian, French or Croat) means there’s a short list of candidates. So why do I get the feeling that both FAZ and govt are unwilling to name the names of people being considered? I can only conclude that the names on the short list are not impressive enough to excite Zambians who want a credible coach and not just a white guy for the sake of having a white guy.

  10. Renard ‘s disengaging from Ivory Coast did not take six months and what makes you think a coach we are going to employee has to take that long ?more over it is not like we are ready to or can afford to get a high profile coach . We can even go for coaches like micho, for the cranes,Williamson-Haraabe Stars amd all those good cheap coaches with all those stupid footballing countries. They can choose us over those clowns.

  11. Thanks gb for that insight. The problem with most zambians is that they love complaining and to be frank with you soccer lovers, I hate it to the core. Why is it that we seem to find mistakes in everything, why? We should let FAZ do their job. Yes we may not be happy about the way the selection has been done, but who amoung you soccer fans can tell us when last FAZ or even GRZ advertised and interviewed applicants for chipolopolo coach?? Almost every name you can remember, including Kalu himself when he became coach, was by way of appointment. Was he a president of FAZ at that time?? In short that has always been the way everyone did it. We should be angry with the systems in place and not individuals. We can only critisise when we see that the new coach is not delivering, because that’s how we managed to get H.J, Bukad Siezer and other failiers out . For now LET’S WAIT AND SEE.

    • Are you even listening to yourself? “We should let Faz do their job”. And you say, ” that’s has always been the way everyone did it.” Sorry, but it’s because of people like you that Faz is such a mess. You’re the type that settles for mediocrity. Just because things have been done in a crooked way in the past doesn’t mean that things should continue in that way. Patriotic Zambians cannot sink to levels you’re advocating for. As long as we see things done in amateurish ways we will speak out!

      • Pady, I think you are missing my point. I am not saying am happy with the state of affairs in FAZ, neither am I happy about the way things have continued to happen therein. My point is Kalu should not be demonised for doing what his predicessorshave been doing in past. Yes the way important issues such as selection of coaches and players, are done leave much to be Desired, BUT it is not only one man’s fault, it the system’s. We as zambian soccer lovers should be pushing for reforms of these statutes so that the way business is conducted at football house, in this respect changes. Name calling won’t bring us that change, my brother. If need be let us push for represation o soccer funs at football house so that all our cries are noted, because are also a major stakeholder in our most loved sport. Then we will start seeing the change we need.

    • @Kopala, you’ve no data man. You’re the kind of person who rejoices in mediocrity.
@Paddy is very right. Think man.

  12. That useless coach George lwandimina is too dull to be assistant. He ruined us against Bissau. That is most hopeless starting line up and formation I’ve ever seen. Further this patson daka nonsense has to stop.

  13. Kalusha if I were u I would have resigned becouse I can’t rule people who ar not hapy with me! Its to much we ar tired of you please step down.ahhhhhhiiii I wonder ohhhh does it mean that no one can contend kalusha bwalya on that possition? We have charles musonda based in Europe with two talented footballer but there can’t play here because of kalusha ed the father said unless kalusha goes there will never play here!!

  14. If Patson Daka was a car his wheels would come off,the guy has been chasing ball since the AFCON and featuring in all the under something tournaments plus the senior teams engagements. I even wonder if guy got time to play for his club side.

  15. Saints have signed Juanmi from Malaga..I guess lazy Mayuka is a real surplus what a waste of talent. I think Zambian players should avoid going to England at all cost unless they want their talent to be destroyed.

  16. wife Emy Casaletti.

A source at football house has disclosed that three names have been shortlisted and all that is holding the recruitment are funds. Of the three, two are from Europe and one is from South America.
According to the source, the sports agency will be entitled to 10% commission from the foreign coach’s earnings when fully employed. Part of the terms being crafted for the expatriate is to take the Zambia national team to the 2017 and 2019 Africa cup games and the 2018 world cup.

“Two are from Europe while the other one is from America and they have to qualify the team to 2017 and 2019 continental games as well as the 2018 world cup. So Janza will have to be taken to the junior team and also be one of the technical people to the coach. That is why coach Janza has not been given any contract,” said the source.

Last week, Bwalya ‘s bid to change the constitution to make him FAZ life president failed during the soccer body’s AGM in Kabwe. He faces a big challenge from soccer administrator Andrew Kamanga during the elective AGM next year.

  17. Bloemfontein Celtic are playing a waiting game to see whether Musa Nyatama and Mukuka Mulenga will return to the club next season.

The duo spent the past season on loan in the Free State from Mamelodi Sundowns, and Siwelele have made no secret of the fact that they want to keep them for 2015/16.

However, coach Clinton Larsen tells KickOff.com that his counterpart at Downs, Pitso Mosimane, has requested all the loan players return for a proper assessment.

  18. The Kalu song is becoming stale! It is under him that we got an unknown coach who brought us the first AFCON.Why shouldn’t we trust him looking at the Herve Renard success story? Why should we trust you soccer fans who were advocating for a local coach which has turned into almost a disaster? What corruption can one get from a $25,000 monthly salary which kalu can easily get even from a friend?Head hunting is part of any recruiting process. With $25,000 monthly salary, you really need to zero down to a person who is ready to use the opportunity to build his career and not necessarily a top coach because no sane top coach can come on a $25,000 monthly salary. You should also be aware that this package includes his own assistants!Let people who understand the business do their job and just concentrate on being fans!

    • Is the $25,000 gonna be coming from Kalusha’s pocket? If thats the case, then he can pick his own friends to coach Zambia. The Zambia NATIONAL team does not belong to an individual, but the NATION through it’s taxpayers. What is the role of the FAZ technical committee? What we saying is that this should be done in a more transparent manner. Dont think that just because HR was hand picked last time and won afcon, and that it will work even this time with another hand picked coach; That won’t be the case. We agree FAZ has been given the mandate to run football, but the way football is run leaves much to be desired.

      • He is the CEO of the association and has his own management style that you may not like but thats life .Are we all going to run ZESCO,ZAMTEL ETC in the manner that we prefer as individuals even when we do not have the mandate? Can you tell us from time immemorial when the last time the coaching job was advertised? The issue is not about kalu as someone has alluded to,its compounded by many other factors including the total package itself and time constraints among many others.Even in head hunting, names are floated and interviewed.Government would never support a recruiting process that is flawed and this kalu thing has become a crusade that is championed only by those that dont see any good in what he has achieved both as a footballer and administrator.Zambia has always handpicked coaches even before kalu came on the scene .

        • We won’t buy into that. Kalusha is synonymous with corruption. He may have his time now, but only time will tell how long he gonna be abusing his position. This why Zambia as country has failed to move forward because we seem to rejoice in mediocre leadership. Smxm!

          • Let the guy work and challenge him at the General Assembly if you have the guts! You are the same people bribing traffic officers when caught and only see corruption in others!Present the evidence and we will condemn him!Tired of exerting efforts at non issues! The same man brought you a coach who won you a tournament that even your so called learned administrators failed to achieve in 40 years of trying !

  19. By: ZAMBIA REPORTS

Erick Mwanza Benefitted $50, 000 from Lubambo Musonda Transfer
Reports have emerged that re-engaged FAZ official Erick Mwanza allegedly benefitted about $50, 000 from the transfer of international midfielder Lubambo Musonda from Power Dynamos to Ulisse in Armenia.
According to sources accusing FAZ officials of deep rooted interest in national team selection, Mwanza was allegedly at the top of the Lubambo transfer.
Mwanza recently served at CAF as Media Officer but has returned to Zambia and is working unofficially at FAZ as the Licencing Officer.
Before heading to CAF, Mwanza was FAZ spokesperson and FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya’s main man in closing player deals. He has returned a few months before FAZ holds elections in March 2016.
Sources say Mwanza has been recalled by Kalusha to do some “dirty work” especially that the elections are around the corner.
“Erick has done a lot of dirty work for Kalusha including player transfers. He has come back to cover up and also play a role in their election.
“For your information, Lubambo’s transfer was $50, 000 less and that difference went to Erick. Remember he is also involved with K-Stars which is Kalu’s team,” the source said.
Meanwhile, a Zambia soccer fan has taken Kalusha to task on the involvment of Patson Daka in all national teams. Daka is currently on the books of Nchanga Rangers but has connections with Kafue Celtics.
Kafue Celtics is owned by FAZ committee member Lee Kawanu who is one of Kalusha’s blue eyed boys. Kawanu’s players have recently been exposed to all national teams for purposes of improving their market to foreign clubs.
Mumbi Chileshe asked @KalushaPBwalya, “why are you playing Patson Daka every game. Are those your instructions. Its making your office more unpopular.”
Kalusha Bwalya responded, “Faz has never, let me repeat has never and will never interfere in team selection. Coaches responsibility period.”
But Emmanuel K Zulu chipped in saying on twitter alleging, “There is a verbatim of you giving instructions to the technical bench on team selection at Sherbourne.”
Mumbi Chileshe also insisted, “we know u are behind the team selection.”
But Kalusha was adamant in denying the accusations, “I am sure you are disappointed that the coaches are making the decisions. Not what you wanted to hear.”

        • Unfortunately,i have only met him once.I Aam just an objective soccer fan who does not pride in personal innuendos. You seem to be very good at personal attacks.Present a workable alternative to what is prevailing and people will listen to you.Stop the nonsense song of Kalu this ,Kalu that as it makes one sound hollow!

          • You’ve no data whatsoever and don’t lie to yourself that you’re an objective soccer fan. You talking nonsense. Workable solution – read my comments. Good luck with your FAZ mediocre leadership.

        • Billy, you put up good points as always and people like Amos are the dull people that can’t see what Kalu and is mafias are doing. Or Maybe we are missing something here Amos? You are prolly part of this Kalu Mafia scheme and if you are then shut your trap and let the adults like Billy spill out the facts for you before you can defend this Kalu scheme. Nonsense!

          • We know you with your insults! You have failed to talk sense except insults.i will not stoop to your levels @TC and Billy. Why should this forum be turned into a platform for non issues just because you have a personal vendetta against Kalu!

          • We have had these differences with my fellow bloggers on this forum including my good friend Uncle Bobs(Infact we have met and become good friends on other business issues) but we avoid the cheap approach of demeaning each other like you have done TC Soccerman.Substance in a man is seen by what is uttered from the mouth. As a man speaketh,so he is!

          • Aweeee Amos Mumba. No one is insulting here. We are just telling you how pathetic FAZ is. We need new people in FAZ and thats the fact. Kalu and his people have overstayed their usefulness. Thats the point. There is a lot things that haven’t been going on well in FAZ, such as poor travel arrangements, player selection interference, etc. We have data, but now you’re getting emotional. And there is no personal vendetta against Kalusha. This is just for the good of Zambian football. For how long are you gonna wait? Next time Zambia will even b failing to qualify to afcon, all because of poor leadership by FAZ.

          • Billy. We cannot all have the same views on issues. Debate becomes healthy when we allow divergent views. That does not mean anyone not agreeing with your side of things is dull or a bootlicker!I have never come across any institution that does not have management challenges and even errors. Some of us have seen some good since kalu took over despite all these challenges. The ills in our soccer go beyond Kalu as an individual. It stems from youth development, clubs management, funding and infrastructure challenges. The issue of the coach is only a small part of the whole equation.

          • Iwe Amos, I did not mean to insult you,but point out the fact that your reasoning was pretty much..for lack of a better way to put it, was DULL. The level of blind sighted by some of you “insightful” bloggers is mind bubbling. This Kalu is corrupt beyond belief. What kind of slave mentality is this that you have, Kalu is pissing on your head and you think its ok? Get it it right, Kalu was a good play because he earned money then by playing..alot of money I must add. Now Kalu is not playing and he is screwing everyone else with his dubious dealings and you are telling us you are ok with that? He is living in South Africa while claiming to be presido with a remote. The above points put up by guys that are seeing through Kalu’s corruption are valid. No wonder Zambia national team is lousy because kids that ain’t fit enough to play for Zambia are selected to start instead of the likes of Mayuka, Fwayo and the likes. Everybody is seeing that Kalu is finger pointing who should play so he can cash in when the players in question are sold in Europe. Why is Kola not playing? What value is he to Kalu since he is already in europe? none, because Kola is already in Europe and has proven agents that will get him to any clubs that wants him with having to cut Kalu and his clowns a check. And you can’t see all that? Come on man, be serious.

    • Amos, we have seen then good, how about the bad? just ignore them just because we have the seen good? That’s the mind set that Kalu has, he thinks he is untouchable and as such he is doing as he pleases and people like are encouraging that.

      • Even if kalu left today, challenges will always be there. Our league is no longer producing quality in terms of churning out players for the National team.Clubs no longer have youth development programs, scouting of new talent exercise have been abandoned by clubs preferring instant success by recruiting established and foreign players. The issue of player selection is a subjective notion and will always be a talking point in football.Corruption accusations will only hold water the day investigative wings produce evidence against him.

        • Amos, then who is leader at FAZ? If we have a president that is not doing his job at FAZ but instead spends all his time in South Africa while getting paid on FAZ payroll, then how do you expect Zambia to be producing talent? No young development at club level is another example of Kalu’s failure at leadership. He can not come up with a system to be implimented by these clubs to develop talent..i am glad you brought that up. And what are these professional are you talking about? Is it these worn out rejects from say Uganda that Nkana brought recently? Kalu cannot even draft a plan to improve the local league because he is absent from his DUTIES AS PRESEIDENT OF FAZ period.

          • The onus is on clubs to have youth structures. If standards go down, the first point of solution are clubs!Infact Councillors that formulate football policies for implementation come from clubs.FAZ has been training local coaches in order to improve the quality of coaching but the rest is the bone for club administrators to address if we are to see any improvement.By the way the FAZ presidency is a voluntary job with no salary!Kalu watches most local games than any of the local fans resident here. Its only a few minutes flight from South Africa. There is a secretariat that has daily functions that runs the day to day affairs of the association. The presidency is not a full time job.Even the Mtines and others had their full time jobs to attend to and only monitored affairs through the Secretariat.Apart from the usual song of corruption,South Africa blah blah..there is nothing tangible that those who oppose him bring to the table serve for unproven accusations.

          • TC Soccerman..I dont understand you Zambians who think we should all think alike .I have countered your arguments with facts. Some of us are on record to have condemned Kalu on many other mistakes when it called for that. And yet most of you who condemn him either develop deliberate amnesia or just choose to ignore some very notable achievements because you choose to demonize someone over personal disagreements in management approach.A good CEO is judged not by his mistakes only but by the milestone and results he brings to the table. The petty issues of perceived corruption will only hold water once you bring tangible evidence otherwise it is wise to keep quite.Lets tackle the issues of school football development,Academies, youth development if we are to realize our goals.Having watched Zambian football from the 70’s to date,it is laughable that one can conclude that falling standards in our game is a result of one factor only..KALU!This is the usual sharp characteristic of disconnections from reality that is synonymous with over zealous Zambians in most sphere of our society. Admittedly,FAZ has made mistakes but on the balance of things ,we have had our very momentous time under this administration.

  20. Where on earth is Simaata Simaata ???? Most of us we called you lots of names when he said our soccer standard has gone extremely low. Few fans took your words Now we believe.

  21. amos u r right i think the is alot of misimformation here. Bonneti came here was it advertised, zambia report few weeks ago told us kalu was in sa yet kalu was attend fifa congr. Y dont we wait nd c this man, then we can judge afterwards. Faz will run footbal it is their madate do so, the other issue lusambo is k stars player were erick comes fro, he was jst loaned 2 power, patson am not sure if nchanga bought him let us research pipo, b4 we cal pipo names here mayb those of u wth imformation report them 2 the police

    • Chisuta. Thanks man!I have never read anything from Zambia Reports that talks about how FAZ managed to source funds for the Women national team, the under 23,under 17 ,under 20 and successfully qualified these teams to the final tournaments. You will never find them applauding kalu for masterminding the AFCON win except to say it was written in heaven! They dont even talk about the success of the coaching programs being run by FAZ for local coaches.kalu opposers think they have monopoly of intelligence over football matters.

  22. When you apply a long memory it is very hard to find bad words against Kalu. We won AFCON and Mayuka got to the EPL, guys have stopped carrying Millie meal and Kapenta to tournaments. Come on until he says he doesn’t want to go on, he gets the vote. Thanks Kalu for everything, now get us a coach and organise the boys so that at least we reach semi final of AFCON! And if boys like Patson Daka even has Kalu’s phone number, its a good thing for a best chance to move to the next level in his football career. Lubambo Musonada and everyone the same, the rest are detractors, amenso kuli ba great Kalu and then you have to apply yourself because the man himself was damn good footballer to reached where he is now. As you vouch for yourself stay comnnected to those who have the connections.

  23. @ Amos Mumba you raise some very good points. That’s the way debates/ discussions on zamfoot should be done. Constructively and objectively.

    • Yes paddy. This was the original concept for this forum when we frequented it.I hope to see healthy debates devoid of insults ,name calling AGAIN!We respect those that dont support the current administration but we also demand the same in return for some of us who see things differently. That is life! It is called MATURITY.”WE ARE MORE READY TO OFFEND EACH OTHER AS THE PRICE OF FREE SPEECH”-Trevor Philips. And yet we still remain good friends.

  24. I suspect Patrice Carteron will be the new Chipolopolo coach. Having played as a player for Cannes, Saint-Entienne, Sunderland, Olympique Lyon, Rennes and Stade Laval, he aso has great experience in coaching having coached Cannes,Dijon, Mali National team and African giants TP Mazembe, he comes close to my mind when I hear that of the three shortlisted, one is from France. His favorite formation is 4 2 3 1 where you pack the midfield with two midfielders helping in defence while three of them helping in attack. I hope its him coz he has worked with Kalaba, Sinkala, Sunzu and Singuluma and will not struggle to adapt in Africa having worked in Mali and Congo. PATRICE CARTERON? What do u think?

  25. Amos my man.I like your ethics man.am disapointed wt some well reputable blogers who would stoop too low to an extent of insulting ah.come on
