Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu says Zambia has failed to attract a quality National team coach because of unattractive package offer, Nkandu says it is for this reason that his ministry has requested the treasury to increase the salary for the potential CHIPOLOPOLO coach starting next year.
FAZ has already started the search for a new CHIPOLOPOLO coach with Nkandu disclosing that the new coach will have an attractiing salary compared to the previous emolument, the salary of the National team coach is currently at U$D25 000 of which Government contributes U$D10 000 while FAZ was adding the balance (U$D15 000).
“The Zambia soccer team is today unable to attract quality and experience coaches that may give us desired results because we are unattractive in terms of coaches emoluments ” he said in an interview yesterday.
Nkandu gave an example of French man HERVE RENARD who was getting around U$D20 000 00 before he won the AFCON with Zambia and was now paid over U$D200 000 00 in Saudi Arabia, ” After he won the AFCON we increased his salary to U$D30 000 00, Angola saw that and got him for U$D65 000 00 we are not attractive, after Angola, Morocco got him for U$D90 000 00 and today his getting around U$D204 000 00 in Saudi Arabia, and you think you can get a good coach with U$D10 000″?
Despite disclosing the salary increment for the CHIPOLOPOLO coach, Nkandu declined to disclose the exact amount the new trainer will be getting. ” We have requested the ministry of finance to increase the salary so that come next year January the coach that will be employed will be able to at least get some more money, I will not disclose the amount but the fact is that we are increasing the salary for the new coach” Nkandu added that Government is also looking at having separate emoluments for the assistant coaches unlike the previous situation were the coach and his assistant are sharing the same money.
