The Zambia national team this morning clobbered South African second tier club Jomo Cosmos by four goals to nil in a practice match played at the University of Johannesburg sports complex.
Evans Kangwa who joined the team this week made his intentions known on his desire to grab a first team as he netted a goal while Emmanuel Mayuka, Mukuka Mulenga and Nathan Sinkala accounted for a goal each.
Honour Janza named his final 23 man squad on Wednesday after he dropped James Chamanga, Toaster Nsabata, Aaron Katebe and Bronson Chama.
With no high profiles friendlies lined up for the team ahead of the tournament which kicks off in just over a week, Janza will have to make the best of the low profile practice games as FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has indicatied that they will not risk injuries in the team.
“In choosing opposition teams for friendlies at this crucial stage barely a week before the big AFCON, it is imperative to be wise in so doing.”
“The main objective is to observe our own team in a match situation, one that does not endanger our players and risk injuries at this late stage. Please rest assured that the choice of teams is not made lightly but with thought, experience and technical know-how. One needs to look at our previous AFCON preparations, which were undertaken in the exact same manner,” Kalusha told FAZ football.
Zambia play Congo DR in the opening encounter on the 18th of January, 2015.

High profile friendlies at so late an hour can do more harm than good.. apart from injuries (physical) the players can also be injured emotionally by losses. Going by some bloggers here and knowing Zambian fans, even we the fans would eat the team alive causing the technical bench to panic.. I agree with Kalu on this one…there’s very little that can be done now except keep the boys in shape and find suitable combinations.

I see a repeat of 2012 where Zambia will beat Ghana in the semis and then meet Ivory Coast in the final.
