Chipolopolo AFCON absence shocks Cameroon, Musonda ‘not happy’ despite scoring

Zambia national team striker Mwape Musonda revealed that a Cameroonian player was shocked that the Chipolopolo boys will not be at the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Musonda narrated how a player from Cameroon approached him during their friendly match last Saturday and wondered how a team with the quality that Chipolopolo poses was not going to be in Egypt for the AFCON tournament.

“I think the preparations have been going on well. I was very impressed with the team watching from the bench. When I went in, One of the Cameroon players was actually shocked, He came to me and said so you guys are not going to AFCON and I was like yeah. So It’s shocking that such talent won’t be at the Africa Cup of Nations,” He said.

“Going into the next two games we just need to work on scoring goals. We are doing everything right and we only failed to score. The Cameroon game was an eye opener and more should be expected from the team,” He added.

The 2018/2019 PSL golden boot winner scored his first goal for Chipolopolo boys but he was not very happy after the team ended up on a losing note.

The Former Zanaco striker told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview that for him scoring was not very important unless it helped the team to win the match. He felt the team could have easily beaten Cameroon by a big margin if they had been clinical.

“I think as a striker whenever you are given a chance you are always looking to score goals. What’s important is scoring the goals that help the team. Am not one person who likes to lose, Scoring in a loss does not bring so much joy and we had a lot of chances looking at how the game panned out, It was a game we could have won with a huge margin,” He said.

The Morocco trip is an invitation from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation which is hosting the Copper Bullets from June 6 – 17 as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries back in 2017.

The next game for Chipolopolo is scheduled for June 12th against the Gambia in Casablanca. The team will conclude its assignment with a match against the Herve Renard tutored Morocco on June 16.
