ZESCO United assistant coach Tenant Chembo says patience has paid off after the Ndola-based side ended their three-game winless run with a commanding 5-0 victory over Mutondo Stars in the 2026 Transitional Season.
ZESCO produced an emphatic performance at Trade Fair Grounds, scoring five goals to give their supporters a much-needed boost after a frustrating spell without a win.
Chembo admitted the team had been eager to deliver a result of this magnitude, expressing satisfaction with the players’ response and their ability to turn their performances into goals.
“We had to wait. We had to wait a long time. We went three games without a win. It is a good feeling, really, for the ZESCO family. We have been waiting for these results and, at the end of the day, we got the goals that we wanted most,” Chembo said.
The assistant coach also praised the players’ mentality, identifying their determination and positive attitude as key factors behind the emphatic victory.
Chembo stressed that every fixture presents a different challenge and that maintaining the right approach would be essential if ZESCO were to build on their impressive display.
“Each and every game is a different game, and the attitude was good. The winning mentality was there within the team, and that was good,” he added.
The victory provides a timely lift for ZESCO as they seek to build consistency in the transitional campaign after failing to win their opening three matches.
The Ndola side move to second place in the standings with five points, gaining renewed confidence ahead of their next assignment against Nkwazi in Lusaka.
Nkwazi head into the encounter after holding Green Eagles to a goalless draw, setting up another test for ZESCO as they look to maintain their momentum and turn their emphatic victory into a sustained run of positive results.
