Charity shield to be played behind closed doors as FAZ await permission from relevant authorities

The 2020/2021 Zambian football season will kick off on Saturday with the traditional curtain-raiser, The Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity shield taking center stage.

However despite football finally coming back the fans can not return to the Stadium just yet as the Football Association of Zambia is yet to get clearance from the Ministry of Health.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga confirmed that Saturday’s Charity shield will be played behind closed doors. Kamanga went on to say that the Association is still engaging the authorities on the possibility of having the fans back in the Stadium under the new normal.

“Regrettably, we still have to hold this fixture at the a close those as we are yet to be given permission to allow soccer fans in view of the ongoing covid-19 challenges. I’d like to salute everyone that has remained steadfast in ensuring that football continues even under the threat of the covid-19. Football has played the role of providing hope for the distressed population,” he said.

“On our part, We continue to engage the authorities to give us the green light on the possibility of bringing funs back into the Stadia under his new normal conditions. We are hopeful that the 2020 2021 season will provide even greater entertainment on and off the pitch. We will be announcing the schedule for the 2020/2021 season in the next few days,” he added.

Super League Champions Nkana will square off with National Division One winner Indeni in the 2020 Charity shield set for Saturday, October 24th at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Atlas Mara is the headline sponsors of the tournament and all proceeds will be donated to St Lawrence home of hope which takes care of boys between the age of 6 and 18 years.
