CHAN: Zambia in Mozambique test

The Chipolopolo Boys will be looking to start on a good note when they face off with Mozambique in the first round, first leg encounter of the Algeria 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Zambia are fresh from 2022 COSAFA Cup triumph and will be aiming to continue their winning momentum.

Aljosa Asanovic will however be without goalkeeper Cyril Mwenya Chibwe, midfielder Prince Mumba and winger Spencer Sautu due to injuries.

Albert Kangwanda who scored the winning goal in the COSAFA Cup final is expected to start in attack alongside Rick Banda and Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba.

Red Arrows goalminder, Charles Kalumba is expected to start between the sticks with Allan Kapila, Dominic Chanda, Luka Chamanga and skipper Benedict Chepeshi.

Kelvin Kapumbu is expected to start in the defensive midfield role to protect the back four with Joshua ‘Budo’ Mutale starting in an attacking role.

Asanovic also has options in Saddam Yusuf Phiri, Patrick Gondwe, and Jimmy Mukeya.

The game at the Estadio Do Zimpeto will kickoff at 15:00 hours.

Zambia and Mozambique will conclude their tie on July 30 at National Heroes Stadium with the winner facing Malawi in the final qualifying round.

The CHAN is a tournament (Africa Cup) exclusive to players plying their trade in the domestic leagues of their countries.
