Chambeshi happy with the win despite missed chances

2-1 was the final score at the National Heroes Stadium yesterday as the Zambia U-23 National team hosted Congo Brazzaville in the Egypt 2019 U-23 AFCON final round of qualifiers first leg.

Head coach Beston Chambeshi felt his team played well in the first despite missing a lot of chances. Chambeshi also expressed happiness with the boys fighting spirit which saw them salvage a win in the dying minutes.

“We prepared very well for this game being the first leg at home am happy we managed to pick a winner from this game, we played well in the first half good,” he said.

“We displayed some good attacking football but we missed a lot of chances in the first half which we should have buried but that’s how football is so second half we allowed an early goal and we gave the opponents chance to pack the bus which resulted in a strong defense, but the fighting spirit from the boys till the last Whistle and scored the winning goal which is good for the team,” he added.

Heading into the return fixture Chambeshi told the ZamFoot Crew that its anybody’s game but with proper preparions, he feels his team will utilize more of their Chances.

“All I can say is that we have played the first half and now we have the second leg, I believe in my team they can come out and do wonders so it will be a good game playing away from home,we look forward to the returning game I have confidence in my team however it will be an open game in Congo so will see how we can handle our preparations,” he said.

Zambia is carrying a 2-1 lead as they head into the returning Game Scheduled for 8th September 2019 in Pointe Noire. The winner over the two legs will qualify to the 2019 AFCON that will be hosted by Egypt in November.

The top three teams at the tournament will qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

  1. This Chambeshi is a useless coach surely hea happy with that display? Defense was very poor tactically Congo were better than us. Am very disappointed with this tactless coach

  2. By far the best local coach a Zambian national team has had in my life time.

I have heard of Heroes like Zoom Njovu but I dare not compare them. Nonetheless, Quick Silver has earned it. The confidence he has in his team + the bond cultivated with the bola na Lesa squad is admirable.

At times the game might not go as planned but it’s the attitude & character that shines through and strikes when needed the most. Well even at 90 min…..

I would settle for him as national team coach @ $ 25,000 .00 any time, any day, anywhere……

  3. We need to take into account of the time of arrival of our key players from Europe. Congo had probably been in camp for weeks. Let us support our Team for they know what is at stake

      • Ati Chambeshi for national team coach @ $25,000 ???? I like your sense of humour Bsimms. Remember what happenned at world under 20 tournament – he had reached his best. I would rather take that risk with Chiyangi who is proving himself under difficult circumstances at both club and national team.

  4. I hear you but I did not blow the trumpet for Quick Silver out of amusement.
What’s Chiyengi’s record with any National team? Victory against league less Namibia, struggling against Botswana @ Heroes & soon failure to reach AFCON if we continue with such experiments.

Quick Silvers has probably struggled at club level coz of the players at his disposal which is no match to the talent at U23.
