The talking point in the early hours of Sunday has been how the Zambia U17 were eliminated from the CAF U17 African Cup of Nations .
Well the ZamFoot Crew gives you an insight.
There are basically two phases.
👉 First is head to head but this is dropped once the bottom teams [Somalia and Zambia ] are eliminated.
👉 Thereafter the South Sudan criteria takes precedence.
👉 Head to head gave 🇿🇦South Africa the nod on third over 🇿🇲 Zambia as junior Chipolopolo finished bottom
👉 With 🇿🇲 Zambia and 🇸🇴 Somalia eliminated it means that 🇨🇬 Congo and 🇿🇦 South Africa point tally will be 1 and 0 points respectively.
[The results against Zambia and Somalia are NOT being considered]
👉 CASE 1 | Should Cameroon beat Burkina Faso, then Cameroon will have 3 points and join Mali in the quarter finals.
👉 Burkina Faso -0 points, South Africa – 0 points and Congo – 1 point.
👉 It means that the next step will be goal difference, GF. If South Africa will have a better GF, then they will advance or the vice versa.
👉 Note that Congo has already qualified as one of the two best third placed countries.
👉 CASE 2 | In an event that Cameroon and Burkina Faso draw then it means that…
👉 Burkina and Cameroon – 1 point each. South Africa – 0 point.
👉 Therefore either Burkina Faso or Cameroon will join Congo as the two third placed teams.
👉 And South Africa will also be heading home.
