CAF confirm date for AWCON draw

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the date for the Morocco 2022 TotalEnergies Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) draws.

According to the latest CAF press release this evening monitored by the ZamFoot Crew, the draw will be held in Morocco which is the host nation, and conducted on Monday, 25th April 2022 at 20:30hours GMT.

Zambia Women’s National Team is among the 12 countries that qualified for the biggest African women’s showpiece which is the 12th Edition and it is the first time feature 12 teams (compared to 8 teams in previous tournaments) competing at the tournament which was supposed to be played last year but postponed to 2-23 July 2023 owing to the outbreak of Covid-19.

The WAFCON will also be used as a qualification process for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand with the top 4 teams booking themselves a spot at the world’s greatest showpiece next year while 2 of the quarter-finalists will have to go for inter-continental play-offs.

The Copper Queens who will be appearing for the third time dating way back in 1995 are in Pot 2 alongside old-timers Cameroon who have qualified for all the 12 editions of the tournament since it was officially recognized in 1998 and debutants Burundi.

Zambia is guaranteed to face either South Africa, Nigeria or hosts Morocco who are seeded for the draw.
