Zambian league champions Zanaco have continued with their strong showing the CAF Champions league this time beating visiting Wydad Casablanca 1 – 0 at Heroes Stadium.
Numba Mumamba made two changes to the team that drew 0 – 0 in Egypt against Al Ahly in the first fixture of the group stage bringing in Kwame Attram for Felix Nyaende and Didi Kitumbo for Zimiliseni Moyo.
Zanaco went ahead in the 13th minute with a well taken Enerst Mbewe goal.
The midfielder slammed home a lay off in the box which gave Wydad goalkeeper Zouhari Laaroubi no chance.
The Moroccans pressed for an equalizer from then on but the Ziyo Tembo marshaled defense held strong to ensure there was no change to the scoreline.
With Al Ahly having beaten Coton Sport 2 – 0 away from yesterday, the result sees the Egyptian side and Zanaco move to four points with Zanaco in top as they have a better head to head.
Wydad had beaten Coton Sport 2 – 0 in the first round of games which leaves them in third position on three points while the Cameroonians are the tail enders with no point.
Zanaco host Coton Sport next week on Saturday.

Congrats Zanaco, a lot of us had no hope in you doing well, but you have proved us wrong. Good day for Zambian football today. Awaiting Zesco now. Gone are the days the North African teams easily walked past us.
Zambian Football is back
Zambian football is back. No more nightmares for me. With the Under-20 having beaten The War Lords to qualify for the last 16, I can now eat my vinkubala which have just been fried by my wife.
@gb I agree with u, Zanaco has proved me wrong. I never gave them a chance that they can beat a Morocan team and go to Egypt and collect a point from Alhary. Congrats.
Credit goals to the team. scoring n defending is also an extra ART. Hopefully the scorer will inspire Saith Sakala to belive he can perform better just like in the league.
On the rise Zambian football!
The Sleeping Giant of African Football is slowly waking up from slumber. Self belief, hardwork and never-say die attitude is the way to go. My eyes were bloodshot and I almost shed some tears when we were trailing by two goals to nil sitting around my friends who had ruled our team out. But a voice in my inner being told me to wait and see. I was engulfed in utter shock and I even called my brother – Frank Nonde, who kept saying that we just wait and see. . .Now I can sleep.
Big strong reliable.
The senior team need a coach. We have talent in abbadance..
soccer-ingulu with a forked tongue! Please learn to appreciate everybody!
Bonaventure, where are you my friend?
Bravo fellas, keep it up.
Well done to ZANACO. I was critical of the team and i never believed they can beat Wydad and get a point in Cairo. Humble pie…
They have always done badly every time they played continental soccer. Keep it up.
