CAF CL: Mweene’s Sundowns are champions of Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns were on Sunday evening crowned African club champions when they beat Zamalek 3 – 1 on aggregate despite losing 1 – 0 on the day.

The South African glamour side went in the game with a 3 – 0 cushion and they controlled the game to great effect managing to nullify the Egyptians attack.

Despite travelling with the team, Chipolopolo goalkeeper was not named in the team for Sundowns but Emmanuel Mayuka started on the bench.

The only goal of the match was scored in the 64th minute.

Mayuka was introduced in the 8th minute and was unlucky to see his header cleared off the line 2 minutes later.

Despite the relentless attacks by Zamalek,  they held on to the end to be crowned champions  of Africa for 2016.

Mweene will now add the Champions legal made to his illustrious collection of medals which includes the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations gold medal.

He joins Given Singuluma,  Stopilla Sunzu, Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala, Hichani Him one and Kabaso Chongo amongst the other Zambian players who have won the competition.

The PSL side will head to the club World Cup in December.
