CAF Champions League 2026/27: October Fixtures and Group Stage Race

Rangers Face MC Alger as CAF’s Group-Stage Race Reaches October

Rangers International host MC Alger on 18 October as the 2026/27 CAF Champions League reaches its second preliminary round. Thirty-two clubs are chasing 16 group-stage places. The first legs run from 16-18 October, with the return matches scheduled for 23-25 October.

For Nigerian readers, Rangers’ tie supplies the immediate focus. Elsewhere, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns enter against Angola’s Wiliete, while APR welcome Zamalek to Rwanda. Two matches separate each club from a group campaign that begins in late November.

16-18 October: the ties to put on the calendar

  • 16 October: APR vs Zamalek; El Merriekh Bentiu vs Pyramids.
  • 17 October: TP Mazembe vs Club Africain; African Stars vs Orlando Pirates.
  • 18 October: Rangers International vs MC Alger; Wiliete vs Mamelodi Sundowns; Sidama Bunna vs Al Hilal Omdurman.

CAF’s latest fixture notice puts the opening Rangers match in Nigeria. That gives the hosts the first opportunity to shape the tie. A narrow lead would leave work for the return; conceding while chasing a larger margin could change the demands of the trip to Algeria.

Rangers’ opening spell at home should offer clues about their ambition. Full-backs advancing together would signal a willingness to commit numbers; one staying deeper would leave more cover for a turnover. The useful distinction is whether sustained attacks create shots or merely leave space behind the ball. That pattern will help explain the result when the teams meet again.

Two-legged football also creates different betting questions. For users returning through RolsBet login, the first distinction is between backing a result in the opening match and backing qualification. A side can lose one leg and still advance. The aggregate position belongs alongside the team news when assessing the return fixture.

APR’s recovery gives Zamalek a warning

APR lost 1-0 to Aigles du Congo in the opening round, then won 3-0 in Kigali to advance 3-1 overall. Zamalek arrived by a different route, beating Djibouti’s AS Port 6-1 on aggregate. Those results establish form against particular opponents, rather than a common measure of strength.

The tactical question is how APR balance home pressure with protection against counters. Zamalek have already shown they can punish an opponent across two matches. APR’s previous recovery, meanwhile, means an opening setback would not be unfamiliar territory. The score after the first leg will determine how much risk either side needs to accept.

Sundowns begin; Mazembe face a familiar continental test

Wiliete eliminated Foresters 5-0 on aggregate, with Mabululu scoring three goals. Sundowns received a bye into this round. Wiliete therefore bring recent qualifying minutes into a tie against the holders, although scoring freely against the Seychelles club offers limited evidence about the next challenge.

TP Mazembe against Club Africain offers another useful comparison. Mazembe advanced 4-1 against Medeama, while Club Africain beat Djoliba 3-2 overall. The Congolese side hosts the first leg on 17 October. A contest between established continental clubs makes the quality of chances, defensive spacing and control after turnovers more revealing than possession alone.

Mobile viewing can split attention between the match and changing prices. Anyone opening the RolsBet app page during these ties should keep the match clock and aggregate score in view. A delayed picture can show an earlier phase of play than the market reflects. Setting a stake before following the live action helps keep that timing gap from dictating the decision.

What qualification adds to the calendar

The group stage brings six matchdays, starting on 27-29 November and ending on 22-24 January. December contains two rounds; January contains three. Clubs that advance must plan squad recovery around repeated continental assignments as well as their domestic fixtures.

For Rangers, the practical task begins before any group-stage calculations: establish a workable position at home, then prepare for the return in Algeria. The second-leg team sheet will deserve particular attention. Suspensions, injuries and the aggregate margin can change a coach’s approach far more sharply than a club’s reputation suggests.
