CAF Confederation Cup: TAS 2 – 1 Nkana (Simon Mulenga 57′) [Agg: 2-3]
Zambia Super Division Champions Nkana Fc on Sunday evening sailed through to the Group Stage of the 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup despite losing 2 – 1 away to Tihad Athlétique Sport (TAS) De Casablanca of Morocco in the pre-group stage round of the competition.
Nkana knicked it via an aggregate scoreline of 3 – 2, thanks to the healthy 2 – 0 win they posted in the first leg in Kitwe.
Nkana coach Kelvin Kaindu named the same eleven that started at home but his team failed to stump their authority on the game giving away loose balls in the middle of the field and not doing enough to trouble the goalkeeper in the final third.
They made the worst start they could have imagined when they went down in the 4th minute after Richard Ochan conceded a freekick just outside the box. The well taken freekick beat Talbert Shumba who was at full stretch.
TAS went two goals up when Ochan again poorly cleared a header that went into the box. Once they recycled it, the Nkana defense was caught out of position and the TAS attacker and all the space to head home in a gaping goal in the 38th minute.
After the break, Nkana brought in Jimmy Dzingai for Misheck Chaila and they played with a little more urgency.
Simon Mulenga pulled one back for the visitors in the 57th minute when he received the ball with his back on goal but did well to shield his marker, turn and shoot past the goalie to make it 2 – 1.
The record Zambian champions battled well in to see off the game despite the incessant pressure from the hosts and they could have leveled the scores late in the game when they went on a counter attack in the third minute of injury time.
The win completes a good Sunday for Zambia after Napsa Stars also qualified to the group stage with ahead of Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.

It’s not easy to play with North African Teams and come up beaten by such a score. Congrats to NKANA.
Some of you might not agree with what I’m about to say. Congratulations to Nkana for the Qualification. Well done.
I’m worried because this team Nkana played is in the 2nd Tier of the Moroccan League and they not even top of that league. Kalampa struggled to beat this team. We have to do better if we have come out of the Group we have been put in. Its disappointing though we went through to the Group stage. Nkana now will be playing Raja Casablanca from Morocco again but these are more seasoned campaigners. They finished 2nd in the Moroccan Top League last season behind Wydad Casablanca.
Just before you hate on me, 1 have been a Nkana Supporter for more than 36 years. I speak out of love for the team. ALL THE BEST IN THE GROUP STAGE
