Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Napsa Stars on Saturday afternoon picked a vital away win against Gor Mahia of Kenya in the pre-group stage playoff match played in Nairobi.
Ghanaian international Daniel Adoko scored the late winner in the 86th minute that gives the Mohammad Fathi coached side the advantage going into the second leg.
Fathi showed intent to not sit back with his first XI as he played Laudit Mavugo at the tip, supported by Danny Silavwe and speedy Austin Banda with Jacob Ngulube as the attacking midfielder.
It was an even affair in the first half but the hosts seemed to up the tempo of the game coming into the second half.
The introduction of Jimmy Mukeya for Mavugo seemed to give them stability but the resilience at the back with Kenyan international David Owino Odhiambo putting in a good shift will be lauded.
Adoko had the last say when he put the visitors ahead with four minutes to play. The pensioners easily saw off the match to continue their remarkable run in Africa that has seen them play 5 games without losing any in the process winning three.
The Pensioners will host the Kenyan giants on Sunday, February 21st at Heroes Stadium in the return leg as they look seal to the group stage.
NAPSA will have 4500 fans backing them after the Confederation of African Football CAF allowed them 10% of the 45000 capacity National Heroes Stadium.

Thanx to a solitary goal that has made us half happy.
Later let the mission b accomplished in a double victory behind Napsa back yard & qualify for the group stage together with Nkana.
Napsa has to hunt for at least 2 more goals to b comfortable & smart out Gor Mahia in the return match.
Congrates NAPSA. Keep the flag high
Napsa has done 50 percent of the job……we have to be very cautious playing at home bcoz gormahia will come to attack and attack….they have nothing to lose……
Napsa has done very well so far in continental football
