Blog: Pundits pick Chipolopolo XI v Mozambique

Zambia play Mozambique in the second leg of the Rwanda 2016 CHAN qualifier at Maputo’s Estadio de Machava on Sunday afternoon.

Heading into the game with 3-0 aggregate the George Lwandamina side are firm favourites to join neighbour Angola and North African duo Tunisia and Algeria who have qualified to the Kigali show piece.

The ZamFoot Crew talked to a couple of local pundits and asked them about which starting XI Lwandamina is likely to send on the pitch.

Kambani Lungu – The Power Dynamos strong man thinks Lwandamina is likely to make two or changes to the line up which started in the first leg.

Kambani’s XI v Mozambique: Banda – Musekwa, Munthali, Mfune, M’kandawire – Zulu, Katema,Sautu, Luchanga- Kalengo, Mwelwa.

Kambani’s XI v Mozambique – From the line up which started the first game, Dauti Musekwa will replace Benadict Chepeshi while Zesco United playmaker Mwape ‘Tozizi’ Mwelwa will come in for Kennedy Mudenda.

Still in Ndeke township, Lombe ‘Spaks’ Mbalashi thinks there might be a place for on loan Power Dynamos hardman and 19 year old midfielder Benson Sakala and Toaster Nsabata might be handed a shock start ahead of Jacob ‘Spiderboy’ Banda.

Lombe’s XI v Mozambique: Nsabata – Chepeshi, Mfune, Munthali, M’kandawire – Katema, Chirwa, Sakala, Mwelwa – Kalengo, Mbewe.

ZNBC’s Isaac Chitapakwa as well omitted Lusaka Dynamos’ teenage winger Conlyde Luchanga.

Isaac’s XI v Mozambique –
Jacob Banda – Dauti Musekwa, Boyd Mkandawire, Buchizya Mfune Munthali – Jack Chirwa, Spencer Sautu, Charles Zulu, Mwape ‘Tozizi’ Mwelwa -Festus Mbewe, Winstome Kalengo.

ZamFoot Crew’s view point: Lwandamina is likely to tinker. The inclusion of Tozizi in the team allows him to start with two holding midfielders and speedy wingers and thus Charles Zulu will start and maybe Kalengo will shift to the left and Tozizi just behind Festus Mbewe.

There’s also a key battle at right back between Chepeshi and Musekwa but the latter is likely to get the nod as Zambia isn’t chasing the game.

Zambia has to be compact at the back and try play on the break and use Zulu’s speedy and thus 4-2-3-1 formation.

It will be unfortunate if Spencer Sautu doesn’t start but for now Paul Katema and Jack Chirwa are ahead. But maybe Sautu might start in the hole ahead of Tozizi.

On Luchanga, the young boy might again be content with a place on the bench and come in as an impact player.

  1. 1 banda 2.Dauti 3. Mukandawile 4.Mfune 5. Munthali 6.Kate MA 7. Chirwa 8 Sautu 9. Mwelwa 10. Kalengo 11. Moses. Festus his size is worth to hastle the opposition defences chances are there that he might start ahead of Moses Phiri.

  2. moze in 4 mbewe to partner kalengoal, sautu 4 mudenda, musekwa 4 chepeshi & de rest to play as it was in ndola.the mambas have nothing to defend, hence nid 4 speed wingers/strikers to catch them on the break. we just play an attacking game which will make them start defending & consequently maintain our scoreline or even increase.

  3. Mark my words zambia has already qualified to chan de mambas cnt beat us 4-0 we hav to be solid at back wt de likes of mfune munthali dauti mkandawile.1 all draw or goaless draw.

  4. Mozambique know very well that they can only win in first half and defend in second half. So using two holding midfielders is the only option for us. Musekwa has to start and another replacement for Mudenda by whoever.

Their strategy will be to defend and run faster coz they know our two central defenders are slow. But with two holding midfielders this tactic wont work.

They would also want to score in first and last five minutes of either half to record a 4-0 score line. But the highest they can score is 2goals unless we conceid dubious penalties and a red card.

So the referee will hv to be at his best. Most teams in Africa bribe lines men to rule every move an offside.

We got to score long-range shots in such situations.

    Let the match start!

  5. Fans like abena Muchofe, MambweJ, Mbalashi, ZNBC’s Chipwatangwa and of course Zamfoot crew are the ones that pushes very hard for the inclusion of pulanga’s like Festus Mbewe, the guy is not yet ripe please! My first XI is the second half team in the last match. I would go for a slaughter from the first whistle and the sub can be Moses Phiri for Luchanga, Charles Zulu for Mwape Mwelwa, Boyd for Malama if he is over powered as right fullback. Isaac Chansa in the making (Sautu) I will partner him with his team mate. To those who are saying Spiderboy Jacob Banda is not better than Munyao and Nsabata are being unfair to the Chan Captain, if you had compared Munyao to Nsabata it would have been okay with me . My philosophy, if a goal minder has allowed many goals in a given league then the blame should not be on defenders but the keeper . Its the goal keepers role to tell his defense not to expose him. My question to you bloggers who think Spiderboy should remain at ZESCO and continue entertaining his home fans, can you remember when he was injured ZESCO struggled but he came back and we where very lucky that Zanaco didn’t win their last match and I stand to be corrected and now he is injury free. How many goals has he allowed compared to your so called best goal keepers who have lamentably failed to keep there teams in top slot? I thank you!

  6. @ Noble I feel the height n build of Festus scares the defenders indeed he’s disappointing sometimes though he can be useful. I see thats why George has called the likes of Moses n Mwila though ve not seen Mwila playing just heard of him. will nid speed wingers n strikers as u ve rightly analysed cause counter attacks will do for us. On Banda, he’s such a massive experience goal minder than Munyao he commands the defence so well he’s next to Mweene.

  7. from the word go Mozambique will bring the game to us. lwandamina should pack the bus and we should capitalise on counter attacks. we score one goal, that will be the end. Guys which is beaming the match live?

  8. @ MambweJ I agree with you over Mbewe if we can have a coach who can be hash on him he can help us on aerial balls may be by next year we might see Mbewe like Crouch in EPL.

  9. @ Abram yes we can and we will, Mambalas are not a strong side, I don’t remember the last time we struggled against Mambalas.

  10. The game will be live on TVM Mozambique…still looking for only streaming feeds but those with free to air decoders can catch it live

  11. Okay too bad, we will be relaying on those on free to air for updates including yourself Joker you are an asset. Ba Zamfoot admin where are you? Or may be you also getting ready for the confirmation game to CHAN ?

  12. Jacob Banda , Dauti Musekwa,
Boyd Mkandawire, Chris Munthali, Buchizya Buchiboy Mfune , Donashano Malama , Paul Katema, Charles Zulu,

  13. Kikikikikiki Zamfoot good morning , Which one comes first a score or the line up yaba! Fantastic to hear that Festus has scored, MambweJ, Muchofe you had valid points, but I will still maintain that the guy need to up his game

    • Who is Ground? Did you mean Arsenal’s Giroud? If it is, please don’t mention Festus and Giroud in the same sentence. Giroud is miles ahead of Festus Mbewe.
