Blog : Chembo has earned the Zesco top job on permanent basis

On 24th October 2017, Tenant Chembo took charge of Zesco United as an interim manager after then Head coach Zlatko Krympotic had been put on leave . Zesco went on to draw the match against Power Dynamos.

The man who has spent most of his coaching career as an assitant was given only one objective by management of Zesco to win the league and after about ten games, Zesco United were crowned champions under the guidance of Tenant Chembo.

With that objective achieved, the next step was to give Chembo a contract as head coach and their is something called a performance based contract which am sure the management of Zesco United is aware of and could have easily given him such and let him fail on his on.

Five months later he has guided the 2016 CAF champions league semi-finalists to the group stages of this years competition after eliminating Asec Mimosas of Ivory coast.

Instead of the news of him being handed the top job on permanent basis coming out of Levy Mwanawasa stadium it’s only the eminent return of George Lwandamina rumours that keep increasing despite Yanga coming out to deny the rumours.

“There is a lot of rumors linking our coach with an exit, this is not true because we have a contract with him and there is no point to talk about his exit at this moment,” Yanga General Secretary Charles Mkwasa told early this month.

It’s seems management have little faith in Tenant Chembo but it seems he has won the respect of both the fans and the players although it is hard to quantify the extent of their influence in decision making.

If Zesco United management does not have confidence in Tenant they should release him now and let him go and figure out his life after Zega although the best time would have been before the start of the new season.

  1. I do not really know how Zesco have been performing under his management, but looking at the results it would be totally unjust to fire the man.
