Blog: A case for Sate Sate the Wusakile legend

Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba has clinched a deal to play in Egypt for that country’s top club Wadi Degla FC.

There have been questions on his ability to perform on the international scene despite his illustrious record on the local scene with Nkana FC. Zambianfootball.co.zm blogger PK shares his thoughts on Sate Sate as he takes swipe at the critics of the Chipolopolo striker.

This is where I have a problem with people who are just soccer fans when it comes to the National. We have had very big and heavy strikers in the league and none have ever come close to what Sate Sate has achieved in his soccer career.

I will give you examples of big Strikers like Cosmas Banda, Douglas Chiwaya, Luka Lungu, Harry Milanzi, Humphrey Maseneko, Alex Ngonga the list is endless but this young man you want to ridicule has been second top scorer at Cosafa junior championships, top scorer in the league twice, second top scorer in the league, young player of the year and now nominated footballer of the year this year making it two times.

Then someone wants to ridicule him by saying he is a midget. But hey look at what a small man has achieved in the few years he has been in the limelight.

It is a true example of hard-work and patience. So for you to claim he is small and what not, how come he has been scoring goals with his small body and it’s not only in Zambia but in Continental Championships as well. If you need some history on this boy I can give you a bit.

Sate Sate started with Nkana as bench player only being introduced in the late stages of the game and whenever he came on, he produced wonders. At this time Nkana were wallowing in division one. In 2011, the boy had worked his way into the U20 and scored the winning goal against Angola in the final in the championship and his magic combination with Evans Kangwa was showing. He went on to be second top scorer in the tournament. The same year Evans Kangwa was top scorer in the ZPL while Kampamba was second and in 2012 and 2013 he emerged top scorer having scored 18 goals in 2013 a feat that had not been achieved by bulky strikers in the recent past.

Fast forward to 2014 the boy found himself in the national and getting an average of 1 goal per 2 games whenever he featured and also emerging second top scorer even after having to doge injuries in the second part of the season.

Herve Renard snubbed the boy in the Cosafa games and also dropped him as captain for the junior squad but the guy’s humility and determination has got him these records some of which the big and bulky players may just dream of.

Sate Sate started Wadi Degla's 2-1 loss to Petrojet.

So for those that are ignorant and want to talk ill of this legend of Wusakile (the home of Nkana FC), I say keep that to yourselves as the English say numbers don’t lie and with Sate Sate they will never lie. He does his talking on the pitch.

One more thing, it is very difficult to impress the people of Wusakile and for people to love this little boy that much in that part of Kitwe, it says a lot about his quality.

So I urge you guys to try at least to get up and get to watch some local football and appreciate some of these guys. Believe me you will not be disappointed.

  1. If there is a Zambia striker with a better record than Sate, please guys bring him forward so we can know him. For some of us soccer is a total package from Div 2 to the National Team. It is cardinal to see how these guys have been developed to what they are. Not just firing at them

  2. @Morgy just sitting in those stands and hearing what people say about the boy will just make you have goosebumps. I know a lot of people say Nkana fans have just created this hype but how is hype created if you are not performing.

  3. Tell them PK…..some people just blurt out nonsense without considering the facts. If you ask them what they are basing their reasoning on they cant even piece two straight facts together.

  4. Sate sate will no longer be a midget once he plays 2 seasons abroad. A move to Egypt and I’m sure later europe will build him. They will work on his frame. That goal he scored against cape Verde was top notch. He will be a very good striker for zambia.

  5. @ Big Steve you are very right, sometimes people should sit and just observe. the problem we have as Zambians is that we tend to have opinions on anything and everything. which is bad. Go to Nkana stadium and see what influence this guy has on the youngsters. They fight to carry his bag while others give him their 2 kwachas. Even at other stadiums he has become a spectale. I have seen shops, cars towels and other items including boxers with the brand name Sate Sate. you don’t do such for an average or mediocre player. We have had greats like Musole Sakulanda and Frazier Kamwandi but I can comfortably state Sate’s status in Wusakile/Kitwe is far much bigger. I do not say this because I am a Nkana fan but because I am a lover of local soccer and I will tell you Sate is king. Another player who makes some noise in their side of town is Alex Ngong aka BAZO.

  6. When people talk about his stature, I tend to wonder. He has played and scored against some of the best and biggest defenders in the league in the form of George Chilufya – Nchanga Rangers and Billy Mutale – Power Dynamos and this has been in the form of beating them clean and not just goal poaching. His combination of him and Evans Kangwa is reninds me of the combo of Musole and Frazier. It was simply Magic!!!

  7. Another mediocre move. Honestly if you move to SA the best move is to join either Jomo Sono or Ajex Cape Town. Either of the two teams can make one a player break into Europe. Below is the full story

Cape Town – Orlando Pirates have completed the signing of Zambia international Mwape Musonda from Africa Sport Youth Academy, subject to a work permit.

The forward has put pen to a three-year deal with the Buccaneers, who will be looking to jumpstart their Premiership season when they resume their top-flight campaign against basement club AmaZulu next Wednesday.

Speaking of the striker’s capture, Pirates coach Eric Tinkler told BDLive: “We identified Musonda in a few friendlies. He is a player we felt we needed to bring in so that he can grow as a player and gain experience.

“Now he is going to rub shoulders with the likes of Kermit Erasmus, (Lehlohonolo) Majoro, Lennox (Bacela). It will build him into a better and strong player.

“He is very quick, strong and loves to score. He can shoot with both feet and from any angle. And when I say shoot, I mean rockets. Some of the goals he scores are phenomenal.

“We have a lot of belief that he will become an extremely good player. We are waiting for him to get his work permit. He will probably join us in the next week or two.”

  8. Off the topic Where is Simaata Simaata. Is it the end of him? We still need his contribution despite his controversy.
Simaata Simaata come out wherever you may be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. He can perform on the local scene but not in a big European league. did u see how he struggled against the big Congolese defenders. ask yourselves, what made Janza to decide not to use him for the rest of the tornament? i would even have preffered that he goes to South Africa where most of the players are of his size and where physicians can work on his body before moving to Europe or North Africa.i feel if he goes straight to a big league he will be subjected to bench warming which will demoralise him especially if he is not mentally strong. i wish him lucky anyway!

  10. His new side lost 2-1 tonight. Their official gave the match official a good go at the end

Felix katongo’s side drew nil nil
