Striker Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga scored a brilliant late goal to rescue a point for struggling Nkana as they played to a 1-1 draw with Sensational ZANACO FC.
Nkana continued their journey to survival this afternoon as they visited Sunset Stadium to face the Bankers in a rescheduled week 21 encounter.
With ZANACO looking to seal their CAF Champions League slot and Nkana looking to escape the dreaded relegation zone, the match started on a high note with both teams looking for an early goal.
Alex Ng’onga was troubling the ZANACO center-back pairing of Joel Kadjob and Kelvin Owusu while Moses Phiri and Abraham Siankombo put the Nkana defense on edge with their trickery and interchange of passes.
The game failed to produce a goal for over 80 minutes despite both teams coming close on several attempts but things changed in the 89th minute as substitute Baba Basile headed in an Evans Katema cross to put the hosts in the lead.
Ng’onga however leveled matters with a fancy backheel after connecting well with a Gilroy Chimwemwe throw in beating Mangani Banda in the ZANACO goal.
The draw means Nkana move to 38 points but remain stuck in 15th place. ZANACO, on the other hand, move to 54 points and only need two points to secure a CAF Champions League slot.
Elsewhere, High Flying Nkwazi edged Buildcon 2-1 thanks to goals from Eric Chomba and Stephen Mutama to move up 9th on the table with 44 points while Buildcon remains stuck in 6th place with 46 points.
In Kabwe, Prison Leopards beat Kabwe Warriors 2-0 at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium thanks to goals from Junior Zulu and Francis Zulu.
The win takes Prison Leopards to 7th place with 44 points level with Forest Rangers in 8th and Nkwazi in 9th respectively only better on goal difference.
