Zambia Women’s national team captain Barbara Banda has continued to impress in her maiden season in the Chian Taiping CFA Women’s Super League as she scored a brace to help Shanghai Shengli to rescue a point this morning.
Banda’s Shanghai Shengli squared off with Beijing BG Phoenix in their first match of the title group while favorites and log leaders of the first phase Wuhan Jiangda faced off with defending Champions, Jiangsu Suning.
Banda put Shengli in the lead at the death of the first stanza with a brilliant solo effort, she outpaced Phoenix defenders before beating the goalkeeper after an amazing half-pitch run to make it 1-0.
Beijing BG Phoenix however drew level seven minutes into the second half through Wang Yanwen before Ma Xiaoxu could put then in the lead three minutes later.
With the match heading for a Beijing BG win the Copper Queens skipper rescued a point for Shengli with a powerful shot from inside the box, 2-2 the match finished. Elsewhere, Wang Shuang scored the only goal of the game as Wuhan Jiangda beat Jiangsu Suning 1-0 to open a two-point lead at the summit.
Barbara Banda has now scored 14 goals and leads the top goalscorers chart for the title group, Ma Xiaoxu comes in second with 8 goals while Tang Jaili and the Chawinga sisters Temwa and Tabitha have seven goals each. In the relegation group, Argentine Sole Jaimes and Brazilian Rafaelle of Changchun Dazhong lead the chart with 12 and 8 goals respectively.
Next up for Banda and her Shengli teammates is a tricky encounter against Wuhan Jiangda on Friday, October 2nd. Shengli will be aiming to finish in the top two for a chance to play in the final and eventually win the title.
