Zambia national team winger Augustine Mulenga put in a man-of-the-match performance on Wednesday as Amazulu run riot beating Cape Town City 5-1 at the Cape Town Stadium.
The former Sensational Zanaco man returned to the starting lineup for Usuthu and was the first to strike firing the visitors ahead in the ninth minute with a strike into the bottom corner.
Skipper Tapelo Ngongo doubled the lead from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh clipped Luvuyo Memela inside the box.
Mulenga was again involved in a goal as he set up Lehlohonolo Majoro for the third goal in the 49th minute. Nyongo could have made it 4-0 in the 57th minute after Siyethemba Sithebe was fouled in the box but his penalty was saved by Leeuwenburgh in the Cape Town City goal.
Benni McCarthy’s men were awarded the third penalty in the 66th minute after Majoro was pushed in the box and Memela made no mistake to make it 4-0 for the visitors.
Lakay pulled one back in the 77th minute for the hosts just a minute after missing a penalty.
AmaZulu were however not done as Sithebe added a fifth goal four minutes before time with a strike into the bottom corner, 5-1 the match ended.
Augustine Mulenga won the player of the match for his impressive showing. Mulenga has been involved in 13 goals for Usuthu this season in 22 appearances in all competitions.
The win keeps Amazulu in second place on the DSTV Premiership table with 47 points, one adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have played two games less.
