Asanovic set to announce AFCON qualifiers squad

Zambia coach Aljosa Asanovic is set to announce his squad for next month’s back to back Ivory Coast 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Zambia will head to Abidjan for June 6 match day 1 against Ivory Coast and then head back to Lusaka for match day 2 against Comoros at National Heroes Stadium.

Before the Ivory Coast match, Zambia face India in Qatar on May 25, and the 2012 African Champions are expected to have another friendly match against West African opposition, probably the Black Stars of Ghana.

With that schedule, the Croatian is expected to announce his squad over the weekend or early next week.

According to the ZamFoot Crew insiders, Asanovic is expected to keep the bulk of the players who featured in the last international break.

“The squad won’t change much. A few players from the Super League will be included,” a source said.

“The likes of Peter Chikola, Ricky Banda and Albert Kangwanda might earn call ups.

There also injury concerns with the coach sweating on the fitness of skipper Enock Mwepu.

Teenage defender cum midfielder Miguel Chaiwa is also nursing an injury.

Asanovic will be bidding to qualify Zambia to next AFCON.

The southern African powerhouse last featured at Africa’s biggest showpiece in 2015.
