Asanovic declares Chipolopolo ready for Mozambique clash

Zambia national team head coach Aljosa Asanovic has declared his team ready for tomorrow’s second leg Algeria 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier at National Heroes Stadium against Mozambique.

The Chipolopolo Boys played out to a goalless draw away in Maputo in the first leg.

The team will again be without Spencer Sautu who is out with an injury.

“The team is ready and the morale is high. We have been in camp for a month without a problem,” he said.

“We have enough players for any position in my team. This game will be tough and tight. We must be very smart on this game, we must be first on every second ball, it’s very important.”

“It’s just that you did not see the game against Mozambique, we had chances to score. We had a good game but unfortunately, we did not score. We really ready for this game.

“We won’t change a lot of players, Prince is going to Croatia, Sautu has a problem with injury but we have three players with us,” he added.

Asanovic has called on the fans to show up in numbers and support the team.

“The game against Mozambique away is gone, We must be careful at the back, we must be professional and disciplined not to concede. We need to score to win but we need also need to keep watch at the back. We not here to give excuses, I believe so much in my team. We have done everything to prepare for this game,” he said.

” I hope tomorrow at 15:00hrs when I come out I can see a big crowd because Zambians love football. Our obligation is to make them happy.”

Kickoff for the match at Heroes Stadium is set at 15:00hrs.

The winner over the two legs will meet Malawi to decide who qualifies to Algeria.

The Flames walked through to the final round after Zimbabwe could not play their game owing to a FIFA ban.

Zambia’s best outing at the CHAN tournament came in 2009, the inaugural showpiece in Ivory Coast when the team came out third with Given Singuluma winning the golden boot.
