Congolese forward Eddy Ishmael Ankobo’s first half strike was enough as Champions Power Dynamos recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Nchanga Rangers.
Abayellow headed into the rescheduled week 5 encounter on the back of qualification to the CAF Champions League group stage.
Power Dynamos started strong and had a chance five minutes into the match, Eddie Ankobo found Austin Muwowo in the box but the midfielder couldn’t take his chance.
Nine minutes later, the Congolese forward was in the position to pounce as he put the visitors in the lead at Nchanga Stadium after finishing off a beautiful Ayodeji Bamidele cross.
Muwowo came close again but his header went wide before Titus Chansa shot his free kick directly at Victor Chabu.
Nchanga Rangers thought they had leveled matters when Roger Kumiyamba put the ball behind the net only for the Assistant refereeās flag to cut their celebrations short, offside.
Rangers were forced to make a change just before halftime as Christopher Itaka went off injured and was replaced by Friday Samu.
At the start of the second half, Mutapa made two changes introducing Prince Mumba and Innocent Kashita for Austin Muwowo and Titus Chansa.
Eleven minutes into the second stanza, Prince Mumba forced Victor Chabu into a big save with a brilliant snap shot.
Nchanga Rangers were reduced to ten men after the 70th minute as Rodger Kumiyamba was sent off after receiving his second yellow card when he brought down Ankobo.
In the 79th minute, Willard Mwanza came to Power Dynamosā rescue following a quick break by Elliott Kampukesa. He again had to make a finger tip save to deny Jacob Kaunda at the death.
1-0 the match finished, The win takes Power Dynamos to 11 points after six games.
The loss is Nchanga Rangers first at home this season and their second overall.
