All we wanted is three points – Patson Daka

Patson Daka was pleased to put his personal stamp on a collective achievement as his brace of goals helped Leicester City to a 3-0 win over Rotherham United on Saturday.

Leicester Open Six-Point Lead With Routine Rotherham Win

– Daka says taking one game at a time is working well for City this season

The Zambia striker had hit four goals in four games for the Foxes after returning to Enzo Maresca’s XI, with his close-range finish on Saturday being followed by a penalty kick at King Power Stadium. Cesare Casadei added a third later on.

It’s a win which creates a six-point gap for City at the top of the Sky Bet Championship over Christmas, giving the Blue Army reason for festive cheer. They next go to Ipswich Town, in second, on Boxing Day (7:45pm GMT kick-off).

I was just focused on scoring, nothing else.

Asked about his two goals on Filbert Way, Daka explained: “It feels great, but most importantly it’s about the victory today. We knew that it was going to be a tough game. It’s not easy to play against a backline of five. They’re always compact.

“All we wanted today was three points, no matter what, and I’m glad I contributed to the team’s victory today. When I knew it was a penalty, I said I was going to take it. My team-mates showed me the confidence. They told me: ‘You have to take it’.

“I was just focused on scoring, nothing else.”

It’s four goals in four games for the Zambian.

Focusing on one game at the time has been key to Leicester’s success, says Daka. Their next one just happens to be a showdown with Ipswich Town, newly promoted this term, but showing sensational form, despite Saturday’s 4-0 loss at Leeds United.

“Going into this game, we were not looking at the Ipswich game to be honest,” the former RB Salzburg striker added.

“We are always focusing on each and every game that’s coming our way. We take each game step by step. Today’s game was the only focus and now we have to focus on Ipswich.”
