AFCON 2025: A Showdown not to Miss

The 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations is set to go down this year in Morocco for the second time since the tournament’s founding. It was last held in the hosting country in 1988, with only eight teams competing at the time.

However, this year we have 24 teams trying to overturn Ivory Coast’s position as the most recent champions. With the qualifiers already over, we have a sure lineup of teams we will see in Morocco. Here’s some action that you can anticipate at this year’s AFCON.

Qualifying Nations

This AFCON we have a record 24 countries qualifying to participate, which is a larger number than what we are used to. In the qualifiers, which took place between September and November last year, we saw countries like Ghana and Guinea get knocked out.

Some of the countries who are still eyeing the trophy include Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, South Africa, Gabon,

By the lineup alone, you can tell that we will be in for a treat. Punters who wish to get in on the action should also not miss out. You can hop online to view the latest

We might get to see the Super Eagles attempt another shot at glory, or rather a new champion altogether. What’s for sure though is that this 35th edition will rumble the football scene.

Stadiums chosen

Morocco has proven itself in the past by hosting several football tournaments. Some notable football events they have housed include the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023 and the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations.

This year, some of the stadiums selected in Morocco include the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, which hosted the final match in 1988, the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, and the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.

The Marrakesh Stadium in Marrakesh is also going to be among the showgrounds, together with the Fez Stadium, which has a more traditional appeal to it. Fans will be spoilt for choice during this tournament since you will have so many state-of-the-art stadiums to watch from. Don’t forget the country also has great sites to see, making it a good spot for sports tourism.

Conclusion

The AFCON is going to be one great spectacle this year, especially after what we witnessed happening in the last stages of last season’s tournament. This year, we are going to see the 24 teams battling it out in a fierce competition. Be sure to tune in for the showdown.
