ABSA CUP: Zesco United title defense faces Kansanshi Dynamos hurdle

Zesco United will start their ABSA Cup title defense this afternoon against National Division one joint log leaders, Kansanshi Dynamos at Woodlands Stadium.

Despite Kansanshi Dynamos being in the lower tier, Zesco United boss Numba Mumamba is expecting a tough match. Mumamba believes it would have been easier to face a Super League side than a team from a lower division.

“We are in this tournament to compete, We face Kansanshi Dynamos, a tricky encounter. It is important for us to show the same kind of commitment and performance that we have shown in the league and channel it to the Absa cup,” he said.

“We are not playing a weaker side, they were in the Superleague and they are doing very well in the National Division One, It would have been easier to face teams like Forest Rangers and Zanaco who we face every day in the league,” he added

Meanwhile his counterpart Beston Chambeshi is expecting a good game as his team has worked hard to get to the quarter-finals.

“Zesco is a big team and have been doing well, They have won it before six times but as Kansanshi we have been working hard to reach this far, it will be a good game playing Zesco,” he said.

His captain Mutale Mutale had this to say: The team is happy and ready to play, we walk on the pitch and give our best, we have prepared well.”

Zesco United and the Mabanga boys, Kansanshi Dynamos will square off at Woodlands Stadium at 15:00hrs in the second match of the doubleheader for a place in the semifinals.
