The 2024 ABSA Cup is expected to be played under a new format set to be confirmed and explained next week, the ZamFoot understands.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that Provincial Division One teams will also be part of the new format with an expansion to sixteen teams expected.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said at a Media interaction event earlier this week that an announcement in that regard is expected next week.
“It’s a three way thing with our sponsors, us and other stakeholders and we don’t want to make an announcement in a unilateral manner,” Kamanga said.
“All I can tell you is that there have been a lot of very successful consultations and next week there will be a big announcement.”
ABSA Bank Zambia last year increased the sponsorship of the only Cup Competition in the country by 10 percent making it 4.4 Million.
Under the old format, Record 6 time Champions ZESCO United have qualified alongside, two time winners Power Dynamos, and 2013 Champions Red Arrows.
Others are 2015 finalists, Nkwazi, 2023 runners up FC MUZA, Kabwe Warriors, Nchanga Rangers and newcomers Atletico Lusaka.
