ABSA Cup: Copper Queens to face the rest in ABSA Cup final curtain-raiser

The Zambia Women National team will play in an ABSA Cup final curtain-raiser when they take part in an all-stars vs the rest affair this Saturday.

Coach Bruce Mwape’s lasses are expected to come up against a ‘the rest’ side on Saturday as part of their preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Zanaco Queens head coach Florence Chalesa, MC Galaxy head coach Joshua Mazimba and Gibby Chimbalange of ZISD are the coaches entrusted with drilling the lasses who will fall under the umbrella of ‘the rest’.

The Copper Queens were on Wednesday drawn in a tricky Group F for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in a draw that was conducted at the Home of FIFA in Zurich.

The Copper Queens will face Brazil who is making a seventh appearance at the tournament, Netherlands, and China who will set an Asian record with their sixth participation at the biggest sports festival that kicks off in July.

The Copper Queens are currently in camp preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They started their preparations in November last year when they beat Chile 2-1 before going on to lose 3-1 to South Africa earlier this month.

The Olympics will officially run between 24 July and 9 August 2021, but sporting action kicks off two days before the opening ceremony with preliminary women’s football matches set to light up the occasion for various sports disciplines.

After the curtain-raiser, defending ABSA Cup Champions, ZESCO United and Lusaka Dynamos will battle it out for the K600, 000 rich Cup trophy.
