Mighty shock Nkana as Napsa keep soaring

The MTN/FAZ Super League week three saw two mouthwatering encounters take center stage this afternoon as Mighty Mufulira Wanderers traveled to Kitwe to face Nkana while Napsa Stars made a short trip to Nkoloma Stadium to face Lusaka dynamos.

Napsa Stars and Nkana came into their respective fixtures having won back to back games while their opponents lost their week two matches.

NKANA 2-3 MUFULIRA WANDERERS

Coach Beston Chambeshi was without influential midfielder Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba who is out on national team duty, Kenyan defender Musa Mohammed who is attending to a family commitment and striker Ronald Kampamba who is nursing an injury and gave starting berths to Bwalya Kasonde, Obed Masumbuko and Diamond Chikwekwe with Idris Ilunga Mbombo leading the attack.

Mighty came into the match having lost their opening two matches and a win was a must for coach Elijah Chikwanda and his players. Wanderers struck early as Davis Kamanga put them in the lead just five minutes into the match.

In the second stanza Nkana came back like a house on fire and just needed three minutes to equalize and take the lead as Obed Masumbuko and Idris Ilunga Mbombo scored to make it 2-1 but Mufulira Wanderers were fat from done.

Former Zanaco striker Kwame Attram scored from the penalty spot four minutes later to level matters. The Ghanaian scored another one in the dying minutes to help Mighty Mufulira Wanderers record their first win of the season.

CHAMBESHI UNDER PRESSURE

Nkana is a team that is always aiming to win the title and losing at home does not go down well with the fans of Kalampa. The fans are hoping this would be the season they win that elusive 13th league title.

Chambeshi and his technical bench will need to make sure they answer that defeat with an emphatic win when they travel to Ndola to face unpredictable Forest Rangers.

Chambeshi’s days at Nkana may be numbered if the response is anything less than a win. Unfair as it may sound but that’s the nature of the Nkana job.

CHIKWANDA RELIEVED

Mufulira Wanderers coach Elijah Chikwanda has breathed a sigh of relief after that hard-fought win by his team away at Chilata. Losing back to back games in the opening two matches did not go well with the legendary Cup fighters fans.

With that win, he has bought himself some time to reorganize his side possibly push for a respectable finish and avoid the relegation battle which seems to be hovering of Wanderers in the recent seasons.

NAPSA STARS 1-0 LUSAKA DYNAMOS

Napsa Stars continued their impressive start to the new Super League season as Thomas Banda first-half strike ensured maximum points for the Pensioners.

The win which takes them to second on the log with 9 points same as log leaders Zesco United who have a better goal difference.

For Lusaka dynamos, it seems things are just not working and not even the prolific Chris Mugalu can solve their current problems. LD has only managed to score a single goal this season and that was from the penalty spot.
