The Copper Queens have qualified to the next round of the 2022 Morocco AWCON qualifiers after beating Malawi 3-2 on the day and 4-3 on aggregate to set up a meeting with Namibia in the final round.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics participants, came into the match looking to rectify their mistakes from the first leg where they missed a lot of chances to finish the game level at 1-1 at Bingu National Stadium.
However, it was Malawi who started strong opening the scores in the seventh minute as Asimenye Simwaka put the Scorchers in the lead after benefiting from a mistake by Ng’ambo Petronella Musole.
Zambia would however level matters in the 25th minute as Rachel Kundananji poked home from close range after being put through on goal by Grace Chanda.
After leveling matters Zambia controlled play and were ahead minutes before the break as Kundananji again struck from close range to make it 2-1 to take the hosts to the break with a slender lead.
In the second half, Malawi came back with a little more purpose and Zambia became relaxed. Wezzie Mvula pulled Malawi level in the 70th minute with a long-range clearance that somehow got past Musole.
The Copper Queens however were back in front three minutes later as Lushomo Mweemba scored a stunning free-kick from the center to make it 3-2.
The Queens held on to win the match 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon and 4-3 on aggregate. The result means Zambia will face Namibia in the final round of qualification to the 2022 Morocco AWCON tournament.
