2022/2023 Women’s National League kicks off

The 2022/2023 FAZ Women’s National League will kick off this afternoon with five matches set to entertain fans around the country.

Defending Champions, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club will start their title defense against Sensational Ladies while YASA Queens are away to newcomers Trident Queens.

13:00hours – Green Eagles Vs Red Arrows | Margaret Mwanakatwe Stadium, Lusaka

Green Eagles Women Football Club and Red Arrows Women Football Club will renew their rivalry this afternoon in what is expected to be an exciting game between two military teams in their first league match of the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super Division double header in a lunchtime kick-off of 13:00hours set for Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium in Lusaka.

Red Arrows are favorites going into this match but facing Green Eagles will test their readiness of the league especially missing some key players like Grace Chanda and Margaret Belemu who are plying their trade in Spain and Turkey respectively.

The recent meeting between Arrows and Eagles was in June during Defence Force Day and the Air Ladids won 2-nil in a match played at OYDC Ground.

However, last season’s meeting saw Arrows winning both legs with Eagles failing to hold on in games which could have gone either way.

This is a game that always produces goals so this encounter is expected to record goals from both teams.

This time around, Coach Simon Kayombo for Eagles is expected to field a strong side and hoping they build up from their Mongu camping plus a good run in pre-season were they won a couple of games while the Air Ladies will have to organize themselves ahead of this game and they will try to capitalize on the advantage and would feel it will be a neutral venue despite the Tonka Tweende Girls being the homeside.

13:00hours – Play It Forward Queens Vs ZESCO Ndola Girls | Bharati Sports Complex.

Newly promoted Southern Province Champions, Play It Forward Queens will start their FAZ Super Division campaign with a tough task against ZESCO Ndola Girls on Sunday in a match billed for Bharati Sports Complex in Livingstone at 13:00hours. .

It will be a long journey for the Ndola based side ZESCO nicknamed Zegalicious who will be looking forward to starting the league on a high note but it won’t be an easy walk for them in the park because the Students, Play It Forward have declared themselves ready for the season.

Play It Forward won’t give away points so easily and they have promised the Province a good run in the league and they will be counting on the services of some talented players prolific goal poacher Marjory Luwaya, speedy winger Mary Mulwanda and the hardworking Mulemwa Phiri to inspire them to survive the chopping board.

On the other hand, Zegalicious will count on the services of Fridah Kabwe, Happy Pinto and Thandiwe Ndlhovu for the needed goals upfront with Leticia Lungu tasked to guard the goal.

15:00hours – BUSA Queens Vs National Assembly | Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium, Lusaka

Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA) Queens will welcome National Assembly Women Football Club in the second match at Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium in Lusaka at 15:00hours on match day one of the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super Division encounter.

BUSA will hope to build on from their disappointing campaign last season when they face the Parliamentarians who will be bubbling with confidence under the tutelage of their new coach, former National Team player Mellisa Kape Saili who has brought in a new dimension in the team.

The last visit by Assembly at Mwanakatwe Stadium was last year on 14th November and The Parliamentarians managed to walk away with 3 points via a 1-nil scoreline with Grace Mulaisho scoring the only goal of the match while BUSA won 2-1 in the reverse fixture played at Showgrounds but this match could be a different affair altogether.

15:00hours – Trident Queens Vs YASA Queens | Sentinel Ground, Kalumbila

2021/22 Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Women’s National League runners-up Yasa Queens will take a long trip to Kalumbila, North-Western Province to lockhorns with another newly promoted side Trident Queens at Sentinel Ground set for 15:00hours.

This will be the second meeting between the Stubborn YASA and The Female Conquerers as they recently met a week ago in a practice match in Lusaka with the former winning 1-nil so both sides know what to expect when they renew their rivalry in the Super Division.

15:00hours – ZISD Women Vs Indeni Roses | Independence Stadium, Lusaka

Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football Club will welcome Ndola based Indeni Roses in their opening match of the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super Division at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium on Sunday at 15:00hours.

ZISD who are nicknamed Kuchalo Girls were a surprise package and title contenders last season and hoping they will continue from were they left from and take the game to The Oilo Ladies who have so much to offer in this campaign missing out on the championship the previous two editions of the National League as they continue to be among favorites to win the league.

The last time Indeni visited Independence Stadium silenced ZISD 3-nil and if history is to go by, then Oilo Ladies will Bank on it but they need to be wary of a ZISD side that can spring up a shocker on their day with their slogan of Team Kwapu.

15:00hours – Mufulira Wanderers Women Vs Police Dove Queens | Kachofa Stadium, Mufulira

Mufulira Wanderers Women Football Club will start their FAZ Super Division campaign with a tie against Police Dove Queens in a match set for Kachofa Stadium in Mufulira at 15:00hours.

This is a game that will be the focal point on the Copperbelt Province in terms of Women’s action so all roads will lead to the home ground for Provincial Division One side Mufulira Blackpool.

The last meeting between these two sides saw Fearless Doves held to a 1-1 draw at home while Abena Milambo Ladies succumbed to a 1-nil loss in Mufulira so tomorrow’s match will have bragging rights at stake in Mafken.

15:00hours – ZANACO Ladies Vs Green Buffaloes | Sunset Stadium

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Women’s National League defending champions Green Buffaloes Women Football Club will start their title defense in the Super Division with a tricky tie away to newly promoted Lusaka Provincial champions ZANACO Ladies at Sunset Stadium on Sunday at 15:00hours.

It will be an interesting match involving two teams that coincidentally met a few days ago in a practice match which saw Buffaloes edging Sensational Ladies 4-1 and that match in itself gave an insight into what both sides will be expecting from each other when they meet in a super sunday clash in Lusaka.

CAF Women’s Champions League bound Go Girls Fight and Conquer will hope to use their experience in the league but they have to brace themselves for a stern task against Sensational Ladies who have all to play for in this encounter at their backyard.

Entry to Sunset Stadium for this match has been pegged at K5 open wing, K10 Grand Stand while K20 VIP.
