Defending champions, Power Dynamos have this afternoon silenced one of Zambiaโ€™s most decorated clubs, โ€˜Maiteโ€™ Mighty Mufulira Wanderers at a packed Shinde Stadium following a hard fought 1 – nil triumph.

Malawian international, Chifundo โ€˜Achimweneโ€™ Mphasiโ€™s solitary strike was enough to hand the CEC glamour club, Power the maximum three points.

Chifundoโ€™s strike was a rare gem of a goal. The ball defied physics and swerved while in flight beating the Wanderers goal minder, Kabwe Mulenga.

Shinde Stadium froze. Power fans erupted in Yellow flames, led by the flamboyant Shombo who responded with his famous jaw-breaking twerking.

One could understand the ecstatic celebrations of the Power faithful considering the fact that Shinde Stadium has been the fortress of Mufulira Wanderers over the decades and is far from an easy hunting ground.

In 1984, Power Dynamos etched their name into Zambian football history books when they delivered a devastating and ruthless attacking display that swept away Mufulira Wanderers, 4 – 1 to win their maiden league title. That match which was played under floodlights has since become part of Arthur Davies Stadium fork lore.

The Champions League group stage envoys, Power have since opened a four-point lead at the helm of the MTN Super League at 35 points followed by the Airmen, Red Arrows at 31 points. Arrows still have two

games in hand to turn the title race in their favor.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows this afternoon succumbed to a Perry Mutapa masterclass. The Chipolopolo assistant coach, Perry the Genius aka Bebeto took the Airmen to the cleaners and delivered a 1 – nil defeat of Red Arrows at the hands of the Tonka Tweende Boys, Green Eagles in Choma.
