Kalusha: Lwandamina will continue as coach

GEORGE Lwandamina will continue as coach of the national team for a long time because he deserves his chance,” says Kalusha Bwalya.

Bwalya, who is Football Association of Zambia president, said in an interview that Lwandamina had made remarkable improvements to the team since he took over as Chipolopolo mentor henceforth would be given a long-term contract.

He said FAZ was happy with Lwandamina and he enjoyed the full support of everyone.

“I am happy for George, FAZ is happy with him at the front. He has matured and getting better all the time. Ever since he took over, you can see a remarkable improvement with each game; he enjoys the fullest confidence of everyone. George will continue as coach of the national team for a long time. He deserves his chance, that’s why I am saying don’t worry,” said Kalusha.

Lwandamina was appointed as caretaker coach of the national team during the team’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau in June last year.

He replaced Honour Janza at the helm of the national team.
Janza led Chipolopolo to the 2015 AfCON in Equatorial Guinea and the Cosafa Cup in South Africa in May last year.

  1. Neutral says:

That’s fine under the current circumstances of lack of cash for an expatriate coach. However, no interference Ba Kalu.

  2. Robert sindaza says:

No we need another coach. The team’s performance at the just ended Rwanda tournament was pathetic. no george should just go. there is nothing good in the team at the moment.

  3. kensplash says:

my few pieces of advice to Chicken george as follws,
1.he must make sure the ball is played on the ground- (bola panshi)and not the chipantepante football we witnessed at chan 2016.we need champagne football back and not to who it may concern type of football.
2.do not let kalu and friends select players for you.pick players on merit.

  4. egwugwu says:

the truth is we are not playing good football but chipante pante and taking the ball back wards.look at Congo Dr that’s football a national team should be proud of.lwandamina is below chipolopolo standards Mr kalusha

  5. abram says:

we are going nowhere with chickeni

  6. Jbl says:

Kikikikiki….you hv killed me,ati chipantepante to who it may concern type of football.

  7. mr.bwalya kalusha, george lwandamina is not a gud coach. He can’t read the game. If u don’t want us not to qualify to AFCON 2017 And russia 2018 then continue with george. Football of today is computer graphics. Mind u tax payers money is at stake.

  8. sly says:

Lwandamina is OK. In fact Zambia is one of the best sides that were at Chan finals. That team will down many. It was possibly hard done by Kalengo’s movement. Under Lwandamina I see Zambia rescucitated. For those worried by the brand the lads played I can only assure you that what you wan in bola panshi will soon be a prominent feature of the Chipolopolo brand of football. Remember the Red Arrows he led into Africa against the likes of Joliba. This is the right man.

  9. Paddy says:

If this is the direction we’re moving in then for goodness’ sake let’s find someone more technical to help Lwandamina. For some of us all we’re asking for is can we have someone who can help drill Zambian players to play cohesive and organized football. It’s not just about results it’s how we play too. We need our identity back.

  10. SKG 11 says:

I’m predicting we’ll have an expat coach by early December or latest June 2017. G Lwandamina didn’t too badly in my opinion he did unearth some good talent and blended youth with experience and he can only play a system depending on what is available. So unless there;s something better he will be allowed to continue until he fails.

  11. Positive thinking says:

Then give him a contract and pay him what he deserves. This is the sort of stuff that upsets me. Lip service with no action. Stinging local coaches along has gone on long enough.

Kalu should know this better than anyone. When he coached Zambia, he said he wouldn’t do it unless he was given a contract equivalent to that of an expatriate coach. Who can forget that when Kalu was coach, he was residing at Intercontinental/Holiday Inn Hotel, and meanwhile the same guy is treating guys like George and Honour Janza like temporary help who deserve none of the benefits.

  12. Big Steve 4rm SA says:

George would be a tremendous assistant coach to a more technically gifted coach. A coach with no plan B when plan A fails is a dangerous coach because other coaches will then easily read his game plan and close it out. when the long ball approach failed he should have switched play but he didn’t, he just hoped things would change.

I wish the ministry of sport would dig deeper and get to the bottom of why corporate Zambia does not want to fund a foreign coach’s salary. Unfortunately for Zambia politicians are far more concerned about the next election than actually doing their job.

    • Positive thinking says:

Big Steve, I honestly think businesses in Zambia are jaded by the lack of transparency in FAZ. Also the lack of success in the past 4 years doesn’t breed confidence.

Zambia has not gone through any kind of process in hiring any of the coaches since Herve Renard’s first stint as coach of Zambia and that was in 2010. As a business I wouldn’t want to pour money into a FAZ. Because this is a conversation that has been looming since before the last AFCON.

  13. Richman says:

Mr Kalu your decision smell corruption and its coming to an end soon as you are behaving like Mugabe. You were once a coach of Zambia and did enjoy the privileges so shall all be treated equally.Coming to Chicken he needs to work with Janza as National coaches as the salary of this two is equivalent to an expatriate coach.A lone Chicken is not taking us anywhere but if we can allow this two to work together they will take Zambia to another level for sure.
Kalu stop being selfish and improve soccer for Zambia first as you are from the same back ground please boss.If you don’t want to listen you will pushed out and its very simple.

Boss show Zambians that you are great Kalu for Zambia not for yourself.

  14. abram says:

if chicken wil continue as a coach we wil not qualify to the world cup.

  15. abram says:

patrice beaumelle is better than chicken

  16. abram says:

patrice manage to hold the brazillians with the likes of neymar, oscar, halk, until half time with the absence of our key players like master kalaba, tsunami katongo, nathani sinkala, king david mbesuma & sunzu. for that i give the frenchman a credit he can take us to the next level not chipanthepanthe football.

  17. abram says:

the truth is that we stragled to beat kenya, zimbabwe & uganda & failed to beat guinea conakry, mamelodi sundowns & guinea bissau, faz shud not give chicken a contrac we are tired of these disappointment. he cant beat teams from west & north africans, world cup draws wil be tough it wil not be like cosafa, cecafa & chan every team wil want to qualify.

  18. abram says:

local coaches have failed even him kalu when he was a coach he failed to take us to the 2006 world cup we were eliminated in the group stage after we were hummerd by tunisia 4-1, guinea 2-1 & we only beat south africa by 1-0 in a formaliy game. even him kalu he knows that lwandamina wil take us to the jungle to be eaten by lions. he dont want to develop football in our country we need a change at faz this Hanif Adams is the man who like football he is like moise katumbi of Tp Mazembe.

i mean he failed to take us to the world cup in 2006 & we were eliminated in group stage of 2006 Afcon in Egypt after loosing to tunisia & guinea

  21. Chicken is not a bad coach, he only like tactical aspects of football.

  22. PIKU says:

I don’t trust Kalu,he is becoming an epidemic to Zambian football. The national team is not for jokers or amateurs but for ripe coaches. Not a kawayawaya like a Chicken.

  23. Gk says:

New coach we want not chicken

  24. Cooma coma says:

As an Economist I dont agree with Kalu, they say figures dont lie, if we slip on ranking, then we are not doing fine, therefore we can not say that the coach is doing fine, therefore he should continue. By the way who is the physical trainer for Chipolopolo, because I dont see anyone competitively physical enough to be national team trainer. Maybe its Chris?
